Skip to Paragraph 4.0 If you don't want to read the sob story and get into the further details of my findings

NOTE: Apologies in advance if none of this makes sense or is not much of value - I'm trying to make sense of it all myself and type all that is on my mind at the moment and will update later on reviewal and feedback
.

For the last few years I've always been on the search for people on the internet creating mods/patches for older FIFA Games that were in the PS3 and XBOX 360 era. Games like FIFA 09, FIFA 10, FIFA World Cup South Africa 2010 and so forth. Unfortunately there's been nobody that's done this since the releases of these games as far as we know it's been a difficulty for modders modding these games for consoles and only later on in the FIFA series by EA Sports that there were game patches made by modders for consoles that were jailbroken/modded.

While it's great that there's been success in that for people and modders of the game, there's a real lack of documentation and guide as to how these mods are made and what tools are exactly used in order to unpack the game files EA have setup in the directory of the game file. To add a bit of further context and a background of where I'm coming from; I've had a dream to try and mod my favourite game of the 7th gen consoles era , which was FIFA World Cup South Africa 2010 (and still is!).
This game was packed with such beautiful presentation, gameplay (yes outdated but still lives up to it's legacy of one of the best FIFA games made by EA), soundtrack, it's animation/cutscenes, content etc.

I've always dreamt a day where someone in the community could find the answers and document it all in one place for convenience and ease of access, followed by community support where if anyone can or want to contribute, the one place where all the answers and support would be. Especially if there was focus on my favourite game as well! I've been looking for a while in different threads here and over other forums and such and trying to reach out to certain other communities that dealt with other games made by EA (such as Skate) but got no luck in getting any help on it. I'm no modder myself and wanted to start trying out myself but with no experience and lack of info on where to start it kind of put me down and started to gradually give up on ever finding what I wanted.

[4.0]

Today I stumbled upon something that may give a start to what I was looking for and hopefully with your help peeps! We can maybe get something started on a game that I loved since it came and am sure many others would say this game was amazingly done well and deserves a chance at some new life!

A Youtuber by the name of GHFear released a few videos over the last couple to few years showing tutorials on unpacking and editing textures of the Skate Games (just bear with me as I explain). He went into detail showing how the game files are unpacked and the tools used to do that, and edit the textures of the game and repacking it for playability.

** NOTE: ALL THE LINKS FOR THE TOOLS CAN BE FOUND IN HIS DESCRIPTION IN THE VIDEO LINKS provided. THE QUICKBMS - TO EXPORT .BIG FILES LINK I GOT A MALWAREBYTE WARNING WHEN TRYING TO OPEN IT AND CHICKENED OUT BECAUSE OF A NEW COMPUTER I GOT. I DON'T WANT ANYONE TO BE AFFECTED INCASE OF ANY MALWARE OR VIRUSES THAT COME WITH IT. DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK.

PLEASE DO NOT HARASS THE YOUTUBER AS HE'S ALSO BEEN ON THE SEARCH FOR ANSWERS ON OTHER GAMES THAN FIFA AND HE'S BEEN THE KEY TO FINDING SOMETHING LIKE THIS AND DEVELOPING SOME OF THE STUFF AS WELL - BIG PROPS TO HIM ALSO!
**

Here's the video
link

This video he shows you how to unpack one of the .big files from the game and if you wanted to replace one model with another model (character changes on another character/skater selection) followed by a script that was created for the game in order find and unpack the correct files packed within the .big file selected. This then exports it to an output folder and after that you're running another program to restructure the unpacked files into a more straight-shot format where it makes file search more easier to find and select. Watch it yourself and tell me what you think.

Now that's 1 of the videos.

Here is another LINK of him trying to extract a texture from one of the files and modify it;

In this one, as I mentioned above, he extracts a texture file from the game files and creates a copy of it, which is a .psg file. This requires a hex code tool to read the format of the file. He's planning to edit a skateboard texture file and understand the file format of it so that when he finishes his editing, he can basically save it as the exact originals format without any increase or decrease in the file size. Supposedly a .dds file format is what is required in order to make it compatible with the original file - Watch and you'll see what I mean.

Q: What's the aim of this?

A: TO be able to modify old FIFA games that were never modded and lacked documentation and resources of being able to edit textures and squad files to alter squads of nations and add new kits and faces.

That's all the energy I have for now on writing. I hope this helps someone on here looking for the same thing as I am. I want to be able to play a modded version of the game on RPCS3 or even on Xenia but the game runs pretty well on RPCS3 if you have the decent CPU.

Thanks for looking into this. I hope we can achieve something more!

Cheers!

I don't have the talent, knowledge and time to help you in any way, but I keep my fingers crossed for you.
However, I can point out a few things to you.

All FIFA games on Xbox 360 and PS3 have fies packed in .big files which can be opened in a same way as from PC games. However they are different in terms of format.

On Xbox 360 models and textures were in .rx2 format. Similar to later .rx3 and convertable to this. This is how we have EURO 2008 stadiums for FIFA 11 and then for FIFA 14. However textures are compressed, probably because Xbox 360 discs were DVDs, so with much less amount of storage space than PS3's BluRays.
Available to decompress, what I did with Noesis and @Beedy 's scripts (btw. I encourage you to talk to him, maybe he knows something more)

On the other hand, equivalent textures and models on PS3 are in .rpsgl format. I don't know what it is. I also haven't seen anyone expressing any interest in them at all, which can be a problem with creating FIFA mods on PS3.

Moreover editing database ability is unknown. I wasn't able to open databases older than FIFA 11 without a specific tool that convert Xbox 360 dbs to PC ones, but making them incompatible with original game. Such trick also didn't want to work with FIFA Street 3.

At the end, knowledge that may be useful to you. FIFA 10 and 2010 World Cup console models and FIFA 11 ones on PC are directly compatible with each other. So, you could for example just add FIFA 11 faces to FIFA 10 for players like Vela or Błaszczykowski.

I don't know much more, but good luck. Especially in cataloging it all. We need such people in this community like air.

Hey Skoczek, thank you so much man! This helps me a lot!

Whatever little piece of information I get helps, and helps with documentation as well. I'm going to take some time in continuing the research before I add anything further in the post as your tag of Beedy has directed me towards some interesting topics of discussion and other peoples findings through some other threads.

Tokke001 comes into the picture with some tools he created as well for the .rx2 files so I'm kind of happy we're getting somewhere, especially with the community continuously making an effort to develop tools and research themselves as well. I'm going to add a table in this post soon with all the tools used and create a description on each of them for easy understand.

All the best in your work! I appreciate your work and the others done with the FIFA 11 PC South Africa Mod, it's really good! Take care until we cross paths again my friend! :)

I'm also looking to mod a game(FIFA 14 WC BRASIL PS3).I know how to add new menus, theme etc. etc. ,but I'm trying to create a .lua file for kits, wipes, balls etc. coz the FIFA 14 XBOX360 rev. Mod doesn't work.If you want to mod you need to learn a lot of things as hex edit for files, textures editing etc. etc.

Since the World Cup 2010 game on PS3 is basically the same as FIFA 11 on PC (and we know what is capable on PC with FIFA 11 thanks to @tokke001's work), it is definitely possible to mod (with RPCS3 it's even easier and faster to mod now, since you can do everything on the PC and don't need to start/restart your console each and everytime to test something). I had already tried some things a year ago and it did work fine.

Same goes for the 2014 FIFA World Cup game, which is basically FIFA 14 (on PC) and therefore easy to mod. I also did try a few things there.

However it's been a long time since I have been active (I focused mainly on FIFA 19/FIFA Street on PS3) and I don't even know where I left off, so it's difficult for me at least to promise/do things. However I always had 3 PS3 era games in my mind to work on in modding, FIFA 19 (the latest/last FIFA in PS3/360 era) for which I spent a lot of time and tried to help people to create recent patches, FIFA Street (the latest street/Volta esque game in PS3/360 era) for which I am still looking to add Volta stuff in and 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil (the latest World Cup tournament game in PS3/360 era) which still interests me especially because of the 3D managers and crowd cutscenes, which are obviously unique in that regard in the PS3/360 era and the potential with it. Those 3 games combined is basically what FIFA is nowadays in the PS4/PS5 era, so with those 3 games you could (sort of) make the ultimate FIFA for that era.

And of course, with everything that @tokke001 has been doing these last few years, to basically make every FIFA in the PS3/360 era useful for modding (16 years of FIFA games), it's always intriguing to continue modding those games.

Talking about FIFA 14 WC,can you help me for the .lua files?I've been trying for a month, but since I'm not so good at coding I have made the game crash when the splash appears. Can you run the game in your RPCS3?If you think so,tell me to send you the game link and the luas, coz I already decompressed from .sdat to .dat, removed .dat and opened with FIFA File Explorer and got the luas(by text not export).I have made scoreboards of the qualifiers, made wipe3ds etc. etc.I also have the WC ball for FIFA(orange + white). If you are interested to know how much stuff I have made, conversate me.I also have to tell you about something(.sprx files).

Sure, if you want to, you can send me the files you have edited in a PM (and whatever else you have planned) and I will see what I need to do to make the .lua files accordingly to that.

Here is another LINK of him trying to extract a texture from one of the files and modify it;

I had often think about the same topic by playing older Fifas from Ps3 area with RPCS3 in that awesome upscaled 4K Resolution or even 1440p. Last time I played Fifa 08 on the Emulator.
I know it‘s also possible to mod FIFA Games with a jailbroken Ps 3 or Ps4. A friend of mine shows me last time the complete Pro Evolution Soccer 2021 Dream Patch on his Jailbroken Ps4. Or even some other big patches converted from Pc.
I know you are aiming on older Fifas from Ps 3 System but there also possibilities with those Consoles. RPCS3 are benefits from his graphics settings up to 4K and above of course.
I am not an Editor or modder but I like your Intention. I hope so this thread keeps running.

Hello I'm trying to patch a fifa mobile game of 2014, which uses old fifa 2008 engine I believe. But the model doesn't straightway look like a .o format.

There are 4 files in the zip which constitute head model of messi.

158023_1.cb.bin is the main model file.
The others:
158023_1.eyes.bin , face.bin and the 158023_1.bin will be storing the meta info...

if you are comfortable, could you please take a look at the main model file and see if there is a way to edit it and plug it back to the .bin?

Thanks in advance.

I'm planning to mod FIFA 09, 10 world cup and 14 world cup so that I can add extra players in the game.

I've started testing FIFA World Cup 14 for xbox 360 and I actually managed to modify the cloth wrinkle files successfully. I used CG File Explorer 16 to regenerate the files and it seemed to work.

I then extracted the db files using the same software. However, so far I've failed to open the db files via creation master 14 and db master 14. It just gives me an error and refuses to load. Without opening the db files of these games, it won't be possible to add players.

If anyone knows a way to open and modify the db files of 2014 World Cup, let me know.

My next test would be to try modifying 2010 FIFA world cup. I'm hoping creation master 11 and file master 11 will manage to open the files of that game since file structure and engine were almost similar between fifa 11 pc and 2010 world cup on xbox 360. I'm pretty sure it will be possible to extract some of the files via these tools, but modifying the db files will again be the biggest issue it seems.

Hello hello, just coming out of lurking to post about how I'm being able to mod the kits in the 2014 World Cup game running on RPCS3. Maybe it will be helpful to anyone who stumbles upon this thread.

unknown.jpg

I too have always dreamt about modding the console World Cup games, to be able to have every nation using licensed kits, to be able to play as unreleased nations such as Bhutan or South Sudan, or to make Mauritius and Mauritania playable again. I found success on at least 1 of those things...

To anyone interested, I was able to mod the kits by using FIFA Explorer 14 to open the data3.big file and look for the kit file names, so that I could use a hex editor to make the game stop loading specific files from the data3.big and load from a new folder instead.

It is better explained in this tutorial:
It is for another FIFA game, but it works the same way for 2014WC.

Also, the kits in the game use the same file structure that FIFA 14 does, it's pretty easy to port stuff over.

If anyone would like to know more, just quote this post and I'll try to formulate info better. Right now I'm focused on finishing editing my game, but I wanted to share the information that it is possible to get new kits.

Hello hello, just coming out of lurking to post about how I'm being able to mod the kits in the 2014 World Cup game running on RPCS3. Maybe it will be helpful to anyone who stumbles upon this thread.

I too have always dreamt about modding the console World Cup games, to be able to have every nation using licensed kits, to be able to play as unreleased nations such as Bhutan or South Sudan, or to make Mauritius and Mauritania playable again. I found success on at least 1 of those things...

Thanks but is there any way to import modded matchball such as world cup final matchball used in real life?

If you could find where the game stores the files for the matchballs, you could use the same method to make it load a modded matchball over one of the vanilla balls.
