SG Draft 2017 :: Group Stage Voting :: Group B

Which TWO teams from this Group do you think should go through?

  • Total voters
    13
  • Poll closed .

READ CAREFULLY - ONLY CORRECTLY MADE VOTES WILL BE COUNTED, IF YOU VOTE INCORRECTLY, YOU WILL NOT HAVE THE CHANCE TO VOTE AGAIN.

Welcome to the Group Stage Voting.

Rules for Voters: You must vote for exactly two teams, in the poll. There are no tiebreaker votes this year and as everyone can now access SG, votes will not be accepted via facebook or anywhere else. Due to some voting controversies last year, voting rules are very strict - if you dont vote for exactly two teams, your vote will not be counted and you will not be allowed to vote again (even if you vote for just one team your vote will not count and you cannot go back and add another vote). No bitching, no complaining, GET IT RIGHT. It's a multiple options poll and you vote for two teams at the same time, not one, not three, get it wrong and all your votes are invalid and you cant update them or vote again. No minimum postcount to vote, but obviously suspicious votes will be investigated.

Rules for Players: First place team will go straight through to unseeded quarter finals. Second and third placed teams will go through to seeded playoffs, whereby second placed teams will play third placed teams, for the other four quarter final spots. Fourth placed teams go home. In the case of tied votes, ties between the not so crucial second and third spots will be decided by coin toss, but ties between the crucial first and second distinction and third and fourth distinction will be settled by direct one vote playoffs between the two (or more) tied teams - these playoffs will be very short (probably voting only open for 24hrs) so keep your eyes open. These group polls are open for a long time as I will be away next week anyway.

What you can do: It is permitted to post in this thread to make the case for why people should vote for your team, and to trash talk opposing teams. You may also talk your team up and trash talk opponents in the public facebook chats and group.

What you can NOT do: You may not post in any other forums or threads asking people to come here and vote for your team, nor may you take the trash talking or publicizing your team to other threads (though short references in other soccer forum threads like 'great goal for my draft team star tonight' are permissable). You may not approach anyone directly to ask for their vote in any form, this includes absolutely no draft chat by PM and I will use my admin powers to log in and look at your PMs if there is anything suspicious. This also includes facebook messaging, I can't police this as easily but if the person you write to exposes your messages... breaking this or any of these canvassing rules will result in IMMEDIATE expulsion from the competition and probable ban from future competitions.

Sorry to sound so strict but you all know what has happened in the past both with regards to voting disputes and Private Messaging.

Competing teams will follow in the next post:

Killer Juniors is awesome.

This formation is a bit all over the place. Not sure if Firminho and Griezmann can play together. Both are best as second strikers. This team would have been better off with a proper striker and Griezmann.

This team also leaves a huge hole behind Coman. He won't track back to defend. You should have a wing back there, not an attack minded winger. Nice idea but too many flaws.

Oh and tits.
I'll try to make a case for my team. The idea was to assemble a team with players playing in their best roles and positions but also as a balanced unit combined. I think I've managed to do just that while the squad as a whole is adaptable to any system/formation/style. Its a proactive team but also reactive when required. There is a noticeable quality that it is physical and athletic so its sustainable for 90 minutes or more. Also its more vertical rather than possession oriented.

The arrows on the formation are pretty important here and with them I tried to illustrate my idea of the individual as well as the collective movement. How, where, when and why each of the players move- starting positions, covering spaces, advancing and retreating in relation to each other within the framework.

Going into more detail about the individual/collective roles and positions.

De Gea- We're all aware of what he is like so there isn't much to elaborate.

The central defense- This needs explaining and the first thing about defense is striking a perfect balance. Blind is the surprise inclusion many of you would think but to me he is extremely important. He is calm, calculated, intelligent, has a good vision of the game with a passing range and has good lungs. He is not the greatest 1v1 defender but he understands positioning and space. Good lungs I mention because I want him to be able to cover spaces and be proactive in all four phases. Then there is Manolas who is fantastic in 1v1 duels, quick, athletic and an overall great modern CB. Godin is undoubtedly the leader, great tackler with timing and is the central player for his aerial ability. Overall all three compliment each other.

The central midfield- The first thing you notice about the trio is they are physically very very strong. I've tried to assign them their best roles in their best starting position. Pogba's best performances came as an inside midfielder from the left from where he can do what he does best. He is in a sort of "free" role between the box to box Radja and deep lying Xhaka. Radja is basically the legs in midfield in terms of movement off the ball and hard running up and down the pitch. He and Pogba create the space for Xhaka when he has the ball. Xhaka is not a great tackler on the ground and he is slow but 3 at the back with two super athletes ahead it should allow him enough room to do his thing.

The wide players- With Florenzi and Bernardeschi I've tried to hit a happy balance once again. Both have great stamina to get up and down but Berna is a natural winger with dribbling ability and direct attacking while Florenzi is more defensive with ability to facilitate the game as a "false" midfielder when required. They stay wide mostly unless there is a vacant space that needs covering but not too far away from their wide roles.

The forwards- Alexis role is basically that of a shadow striker/no.10 which is by far his best position. Dribbling, through balls, shooting, pace, strength and movement. He can move into pockets and to spaces between the CBs and fullbacks inviting runs from Radja and Pogba into the vacant space. Has the lungs, strength and determination to press from the front for the whole game. And Icardi is a killer. Give him a chance and he'll finish. Good in the air and with his back to goal. I went for a natural and pretty basic striker since I need a focal point that doesn't complicate things.

The subs- Jorginho, Reina and Baines apart all of them fit into many roles along with many of the starters so I can switch systems/formations with no problem.

The one dimentional thinking on this forum always bugs me. Boateng covers for Coman, Guerreiro is a LB/CM hybrid who goes back to the defensive line on defense. It's no different whatsoever from Bernardeschi and Florenzi. But seriously? Messi and Sanchez worked pretty well IMO, so did Rooney and Tevez. Having versatile strikers who can do more than just sit in the box is an advantage, not a disadvantage.

So I guess I'll be more descriptive: Guerreiro is playing as an inverted fullback/wingback; it is hard to show on paper, but he allows a diamond midfield in attack, and a more solid defense without the ball. Bayern would routinely play with Robben or Ribery in that Coman role and they were successful. Coman offers so much more than Danilo or whoever and just because he is an outstanding dribbler and speed merchant, doesn't mean he can't cover back.

In that formation Boateng will mostly play as a right back than a CB because I don't see Coman tracking back. I suppose he could, but has he proven than he can? I don't think he has. This means Luiz will have to cover Boateng's position. This formation has the potential of leaving holes.

Rooney and Tevez worked but both of them played many years as main strikers for Man U and City respectively. Griezmann always played as a winger or a second striker. Firminho has played as a main striker for Liverpool but that is not his natural position. They could work well together but I have doubts. You don't see many second striker partnerships in modern football. I thought Sanchez and Messi played in a forward 3? I don't remember them playing as a striker partnership.

When Rooney and Tevez played together they were newbies. Boateng played RB in a world cup so... yeah he can probably cover over there. Do you not see Bernardo Silva in the front of the formation too? It is a front 3.

You're the kind of guy who is like "Ronaldo is a right winger, he won't work on the left."

What's gonna happen if someone creates a fake account just for the purpose of boosting votes??
admins can analyze via the IP addresses i.e if they're same the person will then be banned right??
but what if someone has really good friends at SG who've been around long enough and them voting would hide any evidences of rigging.

That usually doesn't happen. It is the 8th year we are doing the draft. Happened once with someone named Xifio. We usually monitor for these.

Oh and tits.
My comment wasn't to imply there is foul play here but just a joke.

Don't see how Killer Jr even draws against my team in a game though.

Personally I think the system of voting is stupid. Why not use FM simulations?
And then dump the match data here

FM was tried before but was abandoned because it was too time consuming. Fifa simulations and videos were done twice but fifa sims are inaccurate.
