SG Draft - Return of Transfers?

Sir Didier Drogba

Head Official
To liven things up after a somewhat disturbed draft, how would you guys feel about the (re)introduction of transfers after the picking is finished?

It would work like this. Transfer window would open for one week after picking was finished. Each member can list players as available for trade. Offers can only be made for players which have been listed as available, and all offers/negotiations must be done in public. All transfers are on a player for player basis - one player for one player (or two for two etc) so that all teams must end up with 18 players (including two GKs).

Any player can report 'tapping up', ie people contacting them privately to ask them to list players or negotiate deals, and if they can prove it by showing the messages then the perpetrator will immediately be handed a full 'transfer ban' for the duration of the window.

Would you guys be interested in this? Only the opinions of current draft players will be taken into account, please vote yes or no, I will abstain.

I say why not. I haven't experienced this transfer window in a SG Draft before, must've been a long time ago...

Yeah I understand why it has to be done with care, that is why there would be such emphasis on transparency. We could also impose a one trade per team limit on this first transfer window whilst we try it out?

Yeah back in the day I picked Zlatan and he contacted me about a trade, so I told him to pick Drogba and pass it to me. After that draft "transfers" were banned.

I don't care for or against, personally I doubt I would feel the need to trade this time around, but if others want to I don't mind.

To be honest I don't see anything wrong with trades. If XifioChunga fooled Keegan in the past, it is Keegan's fault for letting go of his players.

Yeah, I can see how it would be a problem - but it should in theory be less of a problem if everyone cares about the draft and is invested in it. The reason I am suggesting reintroducing it is so that people can a) offer up good players they picked but may not need any more since they decided on a different system b) offer up players if they over-picked attacking/midfield/defence and hope to get someone back in exchange in a position they neglected and c) people who got a couple of stars but maybe picked badly in the other early rounds can offer up their star and a super weak player in exchange for a pair of very good players from someone who picked solidly but didnt get a good star.

I can understand that if we started a draft with people knowing there would be a transfer, it may be the case that people will pick good players to trade rather than players for the position they need, but I am not sure this is necessarily a bad thing as it would add a new tactical element. Of course absolutely key is that all trading and negotiating is done out in the open.

However, something like this needs to pass with healthy support, and even though a majority of people have voted yes, there is still a sizable opposition. Therefore I think we will only go ahead with it if 'Yes' gets a senate super majority of two thirds of the people who vote.
