SmartJoy PLUS USB Adapter - Working

Cosmo Donk

Since this forum was a boon for getting my controller to work I figured I would post the few tweaks I had to do to the original thread to get it to work. First read this thread to get a basic understanding and to understand where I am coming from, http://www.soccergaming.tv/showthread.php?threadid=85861&highlight=gamepad .

How to and what I did differently:
  • Install SmartJoy setup.exe first per instructions.
  • Go into your device manager and Uninstall the driver. The driver name is psxusb.ini
  • Open regedit and export your registry for a backup.
  • Find SmartJoy PLUS USB Adapter - I think that is the name but I am not at home so it could be a little different.
  • Change all occurences of that EXACT key to Dual PSX-USB Adaptor. The point is to change them all to the supported adapter.
  • The one key you cannot change is the driver key. Find your psxusb.ini and change the name in there as well. There should only be one instance of it.
  • Plug in the adapter and Windows should find the new hardware. Point it at the psxusb.ini and install it. The name might still be SmartJoy PLUS USB Adapter in the device manager but now fire up Fifa 2005.
  • I have read somewhere that you need to use the joystick when navigating the menus so DO NOT USE THE MOUSE. Just the the X button to choose things and the /_\ button to go back.
  • Go into controller setup and choose the controller. Now you can assign the buttons as you wish, it is a little slow but it does change eventually.

This was set up on my machine with the config below. You may have to experiment with a few things like using the mouse to first change the controller or using the D-pad rather than analog when first chosing. Right now my game works great, both analog sticks work and all of the buttons on the stick, except for the curving function on free kicks. Still need to do more research on that.

I hope this helps and if you want to contact me please DO NOT PM as I don't visit that often. Please e-mail rx7turbo @ rx7turbo.com.

Cheers, Eric.
