Well if Chelsea come in with an offer big enough to trigger his buyout clause, our only option would be to give him a bigger contract to keep him. I think at the moment, it is 30M.

Poor Southampton look like they are going to be losing all of their players and their manager.

I have never seen a player who hasn't flopped or aged want to leave Real Madrid ... and unless they've run out of patience with his injury niggles, Madrid selling a superstar would be unprecedented too ...

Did you consider Ozil a flop?

Reports that we're gonna resign Tiago on a 1-year free transfer. I'd personally rather just extend Lamps, but whatever, so long as we still get a worldclass midfielder, it's fine.

IMO Tiago is one of those normal-mediocre players who looked good in Atleti's team thanks to Simeone. But for a free transfer he's ok.

He didn't exactly set the world alight at Chelsea before (one strike notwithstanding) and definitely not at Juve..

Yeah, I don't think Tiago would add anything other than depth but we don't need depth. We have Matic, Ramires, Mikel and van Ginkel who represent youth, defensive option, and stamina. If we want depth we should renew Lamps who is a good influence in the dressing room and HG who won't need to acclimatise. Any addition should either be a worldclass stopgag or a talented young player. Tiago is neither.

Based on silly rumours, here's my desired transfer activity:

Pogba, Mandzukic, Shaw, Varane, resign Lamps.

OR

Can, Schweini, Mandzukic, Shaw, Varane.

You can substitute Mandzu for Cavani or Costa I guess, assuming they make financial sense.

You seem to prefer Mandžukić over Diego Costa? Why is that if i may ask? I think both of them would thrive because of the quality of players around them, and the service they'd be getting.

Both of them can be ****s on the pitch at times, but the Croatian guy seems worse to me. He's one of those players who i cannot stand at all. I'd rather prefer you getting the latter because of that heh.

He's cheaper and less injury-ridden. His goals per 90 ratio is higher, too (when you discount penalties) and so is the assists metric. He is older, but he should at least a full contract by which time we probably wouldn't need him anymore. I wouldn't mind Costa, but he's a bigger risk.

Yeah, fair points i guess. But Diego Costa isn't really a player who's been plagued by injuries before, or is he? He pretty much pushed himself over the limit in the end of the season. Rushing himself back time and time again, when not being fully fit.

The last i read was that he was going to be "out" (whatever that means for him) for another two weeks this time. So yeah Mandž would be a safer bet in that regard. But i wouldn't really start comparing their statistics too much. I'd take fully fit Diego Costa over Mandžukić any day of the week.

You guys are out of your mind. Diego Costa has way more potential.

He has played 51 and 46 games in the last 2 seasons.

I hope you sign Mandzukic and he becomes the next Shevchenko.

I'm not that bothered with potential. Lukaku has immense potential. I want someone who will deliver consistently for 3 seasons without trouble as Lukaku gradually overtakes him. Costa is likelier to be a Shevchenko by virtue of being more expensive.

Mandzukic has only just turned 28 and not recently had a serious injury, age and injury are what did it with Sheva. I see MORE likelyhood of Costa being the next Torres than Mandzukic becoming the next Sheva.

I favour Mandzukic over Costa for the following reasons:

a) I am starting to get concerned over Costa injuries, we may not have a deep strike force and he has not been at the top for long enough to convince me he can recover from a big one. And I dont want to sign him after a summer where he has missed the world cup (if this happens) and just recovered from injury because I am so, so sick of us signing out-of-form strikers.

b) Mandzukic would be half the price, and there are other areas of the squad I would like us to invest in.

c) Mandzukic will do exactly what he is told. I agree that he has less across the pitch skills than Costa, but I LIKE this - we have such amazing creative players that what I want is a Klose type figure who will get on the end of the balls and actually put them in the net, and who wont break under pressure. For this reason my second favourite option would be Dzeko. I also want to give Mourinho the chance to implement his system and think Mandzukic is far more likely to do what the boss wants from him.

d) The arrival of Costa for a big fee pretty much ends the possibility of Lukaku taking on a major role in the first XI at Chelsea for years to come, and could well result in him being sold, whereas Mandzukic could be transitional if Lukaku realizes his potential. As Mandzukic approaches 30 he could be phased out and Lukaku phased in, or, if Lukaku doesnt make the grade, we can splash out 50m on whoever is hot in two years time rather than on who is hot now.
