As the new season rolled in, so did a new boss. Michael Kitchin (that's me, ya naw!) was chosen by the fat controller, Freddie Shepherd to replace Bobby Robson. Bobby decided to hang up his err... slippers for a lifetime of golf so the new boss's first job was simple: Stay Clear of Relegation Peice of cake but first we had a little stop off in Germany. Inter-toto Madness 14th July 2001 St. James's Park Newcastle 2-2 Werder Bremen It took only 5 minutes for the first goal of the Kitchin era to be fired in. Shola Ameobi smashed in a low volley to put Newcastle ahead. Some Hungarian bloke name Lisztes netted in an equaliser after some slack work at the back. It was shortly after the break when Newcastle resumed the lead. Another unlike scorer got on the scoresheet. To be more precise, it was Jamie McClen. It was his first goal for the club. Things were looking pretty class until that Hungarian popped up again to give the visitors a good chance of going into the second round. Now we face a tough match in Germany.
