Tackling/Fouls - Thread On FIFA Forum

Hi all.

I am pretty sure we all think that FIFA could do with some more fouls and fixed referees. After seeing their latest updates suggesting that they have applied changes to pointless referee issues, I thought we could get them to help fix them all together.

Anyway, please find this thread on the FIFA forum and add some extra pressure on EA to sort this problem out.

Thanks.

I remember in earlier Fifa's it was easy to commit fouls. You could pretty much slide tackle anybody, even the goalkeeper as he holds the ball in his hands. Nowadays it's like the goalie has this invisible forcefield around him.

I honestly don't understand why people say there are no fouls. Or maybe it's more about what people think are a realistic number. When I play 7 minute halfs, I get a couple of CPU fouls each game. That works out to 10-14 fouls per 90 minute game, which is as close to realistic as can be expected.

I've switched to 20 minute halfs with my new adaptive difficulty edits (the game is slower because the CPU isn't as aggressive). And the CPU regularly ends up with 6-10 fouls per game. That's 14+ fouls per 90 minute game, which again is excellent. The screen below I took yesterday after 45 minutes, 20 minute halfs, I'm Everton. This is a typical game for me. The game previous to this one, the CPU had 6 fouls at the half. And that's not even counting the advantage fouls against the CPU, and I get several of those per game.

It's not like I made the gameplay super-aggressive so as to make the CPU foul more, my players in fact are all rated 1 aggression. What I did though is edit all teams to 75-99 in defense aggression (CPU will tackle aggressively), and 1-19 in defense pressure (CPU will not pressure upfield). So maybe that's something people can try. And of course if you play the game slow, and allow the CPU the chance to catch up to you and challenge you for the ball, it will foul you.

Earlier FIFA versions had more fouls yes, and it was much easier to create more fouls via edits. It was FIFA 13/14 I was able to edit the game to the point where the CPU was getting 25-30 fouls a game and 6-10 cards, way too much obviously but it was about testing the foul parameters. Last year and this year, the coding has changed and edits are definitely less effective. But I honestly wouldn't call it a game issue. There could be more fouls with the default game, yes. But it can be fixed to a degree with edits and sliders, enough that it's not a problem IMO.

Just want to add that expecting EA to fix the default game is like buying a Yugo and expecting it to drive like a BMW. EA designs FIFA to be a wide-open, back and forth arcade game by default. There are few fouls in the default game because fouls interfere with the fast and furious fun that online gamers expect. And it's the online arcade crowd the game is designed for. EA doesn't design the game for sim players like us. For us, we have to be ready to put in the time and fix it ourselves.

I believe this post to be very true.

While you speak the truth here. There is no need to be patronizing in the way you say it.

Anyway, it fell flat on their forums, encompassed & surpassed by the constant posts about Ultimate Team. Its a sad existence we live in, where people don't go to each others houses and get together to play. You know, it wouldn't surprise me if they totally scrap the offline side of things in a few years OR produce a separate game just for Ultimate Team.

Kids today grow up with online gaming, whereas we "older boys" like the idea of gathering a group of friends in front of the video game. We would write down a tournament table on a piece of paper, and go head to head for an evening of fun. Perhaps even start a long career mode and imagine that we went from fans to manager in our own living room.

Ultimate Team is where they make the "big bucks". In theory they could just give the game away for free and just live of the earnings of FIFA Points sales. Online gaming with recurrent fees give much more profit than a one-time sale over the counter. Just have a look at World of Warcraft, or even League of Legends for that matter. League of legends is free to play, and yet the company behind it has grown to be one of the biggest in online gaming. Why? Well, they have a "neat" shop in the game client where fans spend TONS of money to acquire digital content.

So yeah, Ultimate Team will most likely be the "Ultimate Fifa" if it had to go head to head against offline career mode.

That wasn't my intention sorry. I meant it's like news outlets covering Trump, and acting shocked by his stupid Tweets and appalled at his childish behavior. It's been a year and we all know what he's like by now. Shocking would be him acting like a thinking, feeling adult.

Anyway, there are indeed ways to increase fouls. No EA fixes required. Seems you're not interested in the editing route, so I'll leave it at that.

Playing a game right now... 14 minutes in, the CPU has 2 fouls already.

Some non-editing things that help create fouls: 1. Raise USER speed and accel sliders slightly higher than CPU sliders. The game reads that the CPU can't quite catch you, and will then do desperate things like recklessly slide tackle, or grab and pull you down and foul you from behind; 2. The default line sliders create too much open space. Tweak line sliders to bung up the midfield with bodies; the more bodies, the more chance of player interaction leading to fouls. My current line sliders: USER 0h 20l 25w; CPU 100h 20l 40w

EDIT:
-15:32, another CPU foul.
-17:14, another CPU foul.
-22:24, CPU foul and yellow card. I'm playing 20 minute halfs. So that's 5 CPU fouls and 1 card, and I still have 30 minutes of real-time football to play. Typically though the CPU settles down as the game goes on, becomes less aggressive.
-24:52, another CPU foul and yellow. That's 6 fouls and 2 cards.
-26:18, CPU foul, second yellow, and red card.
-32:27, another CPU foul. That's 8 fouls, 3 yellows and 1 red. But you see it's now slowing down some, that was 8 minutes since the last foul.
-36:23, CPU foul and yellow card.
-38:11, CPU foul, second yellow, and red card.

That's 10 fouls, 5 yellows and 2 red cards, and it's not half time yet. So edits and sliders do work. Is it ideal? That's the individual question. It's ideal for me because I enjoy being able to edit the game and produce game-fix results like this. For people who are looking for EA to fix the various game issues, or who play career mode and can't edit players without ruining career mode, obviously not ideal for them.
