I think we can do without the retarded comments which are making this section of the boards a running joke.
In my opinion, I reckon O'neill's expectations for football games may be a little too high - yes, there are flaws in both games, I'll be honest with everyone on that. But when you compare the number of flaws between PES3 and FIFA 2004, it's the latter that seems to have the most of them.
When it comes to gameplay, PES3 is the closest so far in terms of realism - and I stress "so far" because a football game that is as close to the real thing as it is, has not been created yet, and unlikely will we see such a thing for a long time. You hear jokes from cynics saying about "it'll probably be in FIFA 2014" and they're maybe right in one sense.
The FIFA series has seemed to go too technical in some of the gameplay features - the stuff with free kicks and corners, and tactics - fair enough, it's pretty much innovative, but I found it took some of the enjoyment out of the game when you want a fast-paced game of football. The fact that a pacy striker couldn't out-run a sluggish defender over 50 yards doesn't help that cause either. The ideas are there but the application of them isn't right, and the Off The Ball function, which EA have rather overmarketed is another prime example - good idea, but it's not easy to pull off, I found it rather difficult to concentrate on controlling two players at the same time, and no doubt others have as well.
To be honest, I didn't like FIFA 2004, I found it difficult to really get engrossed in the game because it felt so sluggish and uninspiring. The graphics didn't make me too chuffed either, considering I got a 9800 Pro, and made it resemble software mode on one of my old graphics cards.
It may be improved on the horrendous FIFA 2003 but still not up to scratch compared to some of the previous FIFA's. I've played PES since it was first released in 2001 and saw that the game had potential, even though I played a load of FIFA 2002 (patched) back then, so before you start saying I'm one of those who jumped on the PES bandwagon......
I'm not slagging off here but merely trying to put everything into common sense... I just wish some certain individuals would also see it that way instead of shooting their mouth off
