You only say that because you own it. The tails Carlos*et looks fucking stupid and you refuse to admit it.

No, that's ridiculous. I own it because I like it. Not the other way around.

White tie is the epitome of formal dress. It's as simple as that. In some things it's worth preserving traditions, and formal dress is one of them. Otherwise we'd all be wearing what's cool and comfortable.

Maybe it's because as an Australian I feel more attached to British history than you. Americans have little attachment at all to white tie, and are a big part of the reason that black tie is so prominent.

I'm well and truly attached to British History and can understand why Americans may not be - I mean we did burn the White House down.

Then again my "British history" involves a kilt, brogues and maybe a jabot if the mood takes me. I'm sure that in England and maybe the borders that white tie may be big amongst the toffs but most folk would be happy to be buried in their sunday best, which would seldom involve tails.

BTW, did Hugh Carlos*man have fake tan on for the Oscars? that makeup looks a wee bit strange.

Meh, it was basically England that settled Australia back in the day, not Britain. You know what I mean :)

Even so, I'm absolutely positive that modern day full highland evening dress is very heavily influenced by white-tie, and you guys generally hate the English. The coat (esp. the front with the cutaway etc) is very very white tie, you just don't have a tail.

Do you know this guy?

Often described as the father of Australia...
Without this Gaelic speaking Scot from the Hebrides many believe Australia would never has been more than a dumping ground for convicts.

Besides, no ACDC, Men at Work, Jimmy Barnes, Easybeats if Glasgow wasn't such a hellhole...

Well, it doesn't matter to me anyway. I will almost certainly never go somewhere that requires white tie. Relic of the Victorian era.

Haha the Australian rock scene 100% owes itself to Scotland.

I actually grew up on the banks of the Macquarie river, so know my fair share about Lochy boy! But he isn't given THAT much credit in the history we learn about at school.

McArthur I'm fairly sure was Scottish, and is given more credit for his impact (in fact his rebellion/coup led to Macquarie being shipped over to govern).

I've never seen a white tie with anything other than an all white suit.

"White Tie" (whilst the bow tie is white) isn't so much referring to just the tie colour, as to the most formal of evening dress for men - ie. full evening dress.

Google any big royal occasion in most of the western world (eg. a ball/whatever) and it'll nearly always be a 'white tie' event.

Yeah, probably more at home in the fashion thread...so back to dating/courtship. Will be 7 years for me and my girlfriend this year. We celebrated our "anniversary" (not married, just got together anniversary) for the first time last year (best thing about my gf is she isn't really into that stuff). But now we've done it we both feel we should do something this year.

Hmmmm. I'm thinking just a nice dinner out somewhere. Maybe even a movie. "Date nights" can be fun and a bit of a novelty after this long.

So you are still in the "we've been together for this long" phase. I was there once, but then I got married and have lost count of the years. Then again when you throw some kids into the mix your world changes. To have a simple dine out meal requires babysitters/family members to supervise the bairns. Anniversary meals are now not much more than the local chinese - Yes there is one in Portree :)

Not really at that stage. Generally only count when people ask. I mean my dad has been married nearly 20 years, and I'm sure he should tell you how long it had been if someone asked.

But kids would be quite the game changer. Not ready for that shit yet

Nice pic, seems a bit strange for Spring Breakers to be wearing that much clothing :)

Having kids is definitely a game changer but I have absolutely no regrets. I think it gives you a new perspective on your priorities in life, it makes you less selfish.

Some folk wait and wait to be "ready" and then they find that the stork has already flown away. Others wish never to have children, then they meet the right person and it happens. Then again there are some unfortunate folk who have no choice as something doesn't work for either then or their partner.
