The end of another generation in NT's

Coruja

Senior Squad
Well, with the defeat of Portugal yesterday, i was thinking about our future, because the players that we have are getting too old for this competitions so a search of new good players is approaching.

So this topic is for the discussion of the future of some NT's, the young players that they have, the new great NT's that are growing up or the NT's that are decreasing of quality.

Portugal example:

Our goalkeepers are "young" so no problem there.

Euro 2012:

Bruno Alves: 31
Paulo Ferreira: 33
Duda: 32
Ricardo Carvalho: 34
Miguel: 32
Ricardo Costa: 31
Pedro Mendes: 33
Tiago: 31
Deco: 35
Liedson: 35
Simao: 33

This are the ones that were in this WC 2010, so in about 2 years they will have that age, in Brasil 2014 its somewhat impossible for them and other ones to be part of the squad.

Looking for our current portuguese youngsters that are a few with quality but still not so famous:

Rui Patricio (22) - Sporting - GK
Joao Moutinho (23) - Sporting - MF
Carriço (20) - Sporting - DF
Miguel Vitor (20) - Benfica - DF
Ukra (22)
Castro (22)
Rabiola (20)
Candeias (22)___________________All from Porto
Yazalde (21) - Braga - FW
Adrien Silva (21) - Sporting - MF
....
....
.
..
..
etc

In the present they're not so famous but without a doubt great players who can take a major rule in the future.

I think Queiroz made a mistake by not including him in the current WC squad.

I think most of us can agree the Germans are going to dominate football again in the coming years.. amazing young generation of players they have now, it's scary to see what they can become with more experience.

I can see the Americans continuing to improve too with coming generations. Great spirit and athletic attitude, with a few more Donovans around they could become real contenders.

I honestly don't think we can predict such things. Just because your squad average in this WC is low doesn't mean you will dominate future tournaments. Young talents always pop up or players lose form, it's hard to tell.

This year they sucked.

The other ones we made quite good tournaments.

Its not the case of predicting suchs things, but seeing the way things are running and the quality of players that are appearing in some countries and disaperaring from anothers. Not in a single player view but as a global view of the prospects. Portugal had a "Golden Generation" when "all" the players were talented and playing in big european names like Figo, Rui Costa, Fernando Couto, João Pinto, Pauleta... Now when we think about Portugal only one name comes to surface... guess who? Queiroz can be a bad coach in NT, but hes very good in youth teams, he was the one who "discovered" the likes of Figo, Rui Costa, etc and he won under-20 WC with them. So i would like to continue with him in the youth NT.

Semis in 2000
Runner up in 2004
Semis in 2006
QF in 2008

Tell me.......how many European teams can match that?

Spain? NO!
England? NO!!!
Italy? NO!
France? Winner 2000, QF in 2004, Runner up in 2006....yes
Germany-Runner up in 2002, Semis in 2006, Runner up in 2008.....maybe.

That's just 2 teams out of a LOT of teams in UEFA.

Portugal has not always sucked. During the days of Rui Costa and Luis Figo, they were very good. The problem is that the days of THAT Golden Generation have come and gone.....now, they have one good player which isn't good enough.

There's is a difference between what they were and what they are. They were good but they are bad. Don;t get those 2 confused.

That's not only an issue for Portugal, but for England as well. Their squad will be quite different for the next World Cup.

Mikel Arteta is a VERY creative midfield player. A true playmaker in the center of the field. He creates chances to the left/right and gives options to strikers as well as wingers and doesn't believe in aimless long balls. Everything he does is with a specific purpose. He doesn't waste possession. He has not played a single game for Spain's NT*.

The 6-million dollar/pound question becomes:
Can he play with Frank Lampard**?

* - if Klose, Cacau, Oezl, Boateng, etc. can play for Germany, if Deco can play for Portugal then why not!

** - actually Carlos Rodwell is his teammate at Everton so maybe the England midfield could be:
Walcott---Arteta---Rodwell---Joe Cole

and that midfield could create a LOT of chances for Rooney. If you're going to shake things up, I say go all the way.

why do you compare cacau, ozil, boateng with arteta? They're born in germany and you already have dozens of non ethnic english players. Ashley Cole, Heskey, Shaun Right Philips, Defoe, Ferdinand and the list can go on till tomorrow

**** you, Boateng was born in Berlin to a German parent, Ozil was born in Gelsinkirchen, and Klose has never identified as a Pole, and his family is clearly German having been turned into Poles when the borders were redrawn after WWI or WWII.

im curious about Italy.

Look for a 2018 resurgence. 2014 will be the kids getting their feet wet, and by 2018 they'll be dangerous again.
