The England National team thread

You have Walcott in that lineup...
Welbeck will never lead the line and most of the back 4 won't be world class players.
I'm currently pissed out of my head and therefore more pessimistic, but come on, that lineup surely doesn't give cause to too much optimism, does it?

Would you call Pique world class 4 years ago? Would you call him world class now? He is 3-4 years older than Jones and Smailling.

In 4 years time those guys will get plenty of experience to be the best in the world. Smailling and Jones are destined to be starters for United and I see Cahill replacing Terry. Training with guys like Terry, Ferdinand and Vidic every day is not something many defenders can boast out there.

I also believe Welbeck can establish a great partnership with Rooney from what I saw this season. If he sorts out this feet, he'll be lethal.

You are missing the potential development in a young player from getting regular games at top teams. Don't look at how they play now, look how they can play given their ability and the coaching setup they will receive. They have all proven that they can perform well against the best teams in the world. All they need is experience

Quite good points made there. Especially with Jones & Smalling.
I'm actually interested in seeing how Baines will cope internationally, since I have a feeling he wouldn't be up to the task.
Comparing the rest with the likes of the current squads of Spain, Germany and maybe Holland still leaves me less optimistic than you, but also less pessimistic than last night ;)

Martin Kelly played 12 games in the EPL's 8th placed team. What the heck. What did he do to deserve this call up?

Could you imagine. Gets knocked out with 0 points and then fails to qualify for the World Cup?

Would they stick with him for long enough?

Isn't Kelly RB? Is he really a hetter option than Richards? Hodgson is a racist.

Yeah, that's the worst offense by far. Glen Johnson was bad enough, anyone with two eyes and rat's brain can see that Micah is vastly superior, but ******* Kelly?! Isn't he Irish anyway (a national team he might actually be good enough to play for)?

YELLOW CARD - Sarcasm
Micah said he didn't want to be on the backup list so he made himself unavailable for selection.
EDIT - No sympathy for Micah, he was promising but he's like most of the other players, in the grand scheme, he's distinctly average with few career achievements but in his own head, he's equal to a Paolo Maldini or a Franco Baresi or a Bobby Moore.

As for Rio, he can jog on. He's throwing his toys out of his pram because no-one is playing by his rules, it's always the case. Forget a chip on his shoulder, he's got a whole f*cking bag of them. If you're club manager is saying that you as a player could not manage tournament football, I very much doubt he's saying that for a lol.

I only found out about Richards making himself unavailable recently, Carrick did it too, so so stupid, if they hadn't done that they would both be in the tournament rather than watching it at home on TV.

I do think Richards is a better player than you give him credit for though, I actually think he is defensively the best right back we have (expect for maybe Walker) and I think he will improve, though I agree there are problems with his attitude.

Excellent article which sums up the Rio situation and the players "deselecting" themselves perfectly http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/blogs/paul-parker/hodgson-over-rio-133007100.html

The article is ****. The whole argument is based on "how many games can you get out of Rio?".

How many games is England expected to play in? Rio is one of the most experienced players England has. Just having him be on the bench and in the dressing room will make a huge difference. What if John Terry gets injuried? What if John Terry needs one game to rest before quarters? Roy's argument that if you take Rio with you then you MUST start him is weak, Ferdinand never said that he deserves a starting place, he just wanted to be there. He might get injuried after playing for one game? Well ****, are you going to play Kelly for 3-4 games in the tournament?

Or he might break down with a long-term injury? So you risk him in ****ty friendlies, but the tournament that you worked so hard for for 2 years you are afraid he will end up playing his last game. Makes sense, lets preserve Rio from playing in the most important tournament, so that we can use him in useless friendlies.

Hodgson is just a dumb manager and he couldn't wait to select another Liverpool player
