Rio's been injured hasn't he? and lamps was brought on for 2nd half. Was Carrick and Barry first half.

Ferdinand was injured or ill I think. It wasn't a bad performance even though we lost. Might as well give up on James at 38/39 or however old he is and let Green have a go. He's done well for West Ham lately. Terry made a few poor decisions. It looked like it was all Jageilka's fault for the goal, but it wasn't because Terry was too far away from him and left Villa with room to turn into space. If I'm making an excuse we had some key players missing and Spain only missed Puyol, although I have to admit we were well beaten last night.

Ben Foster, Leighton Baines and Aaron Lennon have all received call-ups but no Agbonlahor or Micah Richards...

I know Gerrard is more effective in the centre, but I don't like the idea of Downing playing there. Or maybe SWP on the left and Gerrard & Lampard in the centre. Lennon has been terrific these last few games and I think khe deserves to feature in these games.

Where would you fit Gerrard then?

I can't understand why a country with two of the best, if the the best, midfielders in the world wants to split them up. Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard seem like the most obvious choices on the team sheet....both playing as CMs with one striker and an extra midfielder(a DM...make Carrick or Barry play as DM).

That will free the shackles from the both Lampard and Gerrard. They don't cancel eachother out....they just aren't allowed to play with the kind of freedom that would suit them. Capello really should try this out.

I wouldn't. Playing them together rarely works so it's best not to.

I think the one player that England have really missed is Hargreaves, playing 3 in midfield with Hargreaves giving Lamps and Gerrard the freedom is ideal.

Regardless of how well Barry and Carrick have played, they're not half as good as Hargreaves at playing that role.

capello will never play with 3 in the center. all of his teams are 2 rocks in the mid (emerson,vieira-> juve, emerson, diarra -> madrid, carrick, barry (at least vs spain) -> england) 2 wingers and 2 strikers.

Picking King was a poor decision. I feel sorry for him. And I'd love to see him play for England regularly. But it just can't work.
