The Happening (N)

Has anyone seen this film? I know it's got bad reviews but Roger Ebert said it was good, so the other day i went along to watch it.

Oh my god, it's literally one of the worst films i've EVER seen. It's bad, in every single aspect, it's badly acted, badly written, badly conceived. Even the actual genre it's in makes no sense whatsoever. A disaster movie/comedy? Really?

If anyone has anything good about this to say, please let me know, as i'm really interested as to whether i utterly missed the point of it.

The Happening... hmmm. Sounds like a typical horror movie title. I never watch horror movies. The shinning was good, and The Sixth Sense. Thats where my interest in the genre ends.. pretty much

Anyway, back on topic, imdb says its Drama | Sci-Fi/// :S
that alone sounds weird. That and the fact that Wahlberg's in it with his annoying face... reason enough to avoid even reading about this movie ever again (and all that without even watching it) :D

watching this movie actually gives you the symptoms seen in the movie. first you lose all coherence in speech, probably due to the endless amount of brain cells lost during the viewing process. then you just want to kill yourself. one of the worst movies ever, easily.

Yes, its one of the worst movies I have seen but still better than Street Fighter. (H) The Happening has nothing happening in it. I am Legend also had nothing in it. It was maybe a little better than this.

I hated it. What a disaster. Shyamalan has lost it. Wahlberg's acting is very strange, Deschanel is laughable, the dialogue is ridiculous, the way they all react doesn't make any sense at all, and NOTHING happens. (N)(N)(N)

and yeah, most of the time I agree with Ebert but he's really off with this one.

Didn't watch it but heard that its really bad from friends who have watched it. I've never watched a Shyamalan film after Unbreakable thought it was rubbish and wanted to walk out of the cinema only didn't because i was with a big group.

went to see it the other day...didn't like it at all (the ending sucks!) the only good thing about this movie is when people start killing themselves :puke:

no, he's right. seeing that guy get run over by a lawnmower was actually kinda funny, in fact i couldn't help but laugh at most of the parts that were actually supposed to be serious just because it was a such a strange piece of film that I wasn't really sure how to react.

It's hard to imagine that MNS didn't realize that the dialogue was weird as hell when he was writing it, I mean people just don't talk or react the way he had it in the movie but then again maybe he's not trying to go for the realistic approach, he's just creating his own reality and making millions off of fools like us who expected an awesome thriller.

I just think that it's basically MNS's retarded/psychotic way of telling us to start taking care of our planet before it's too late.

No Alex, it's exactly the opposite, if this had've been a normal horror/thriller it'd have been ok, not great, but ok. Instead Shamalyan loses the plot with it.

You know, in interviews he honestly said: "This movie will make you cry with joy, with laughter, with sadness".

What an absolute tosser, never will i go and see another one of his movies in the cinema without first reading at least ten reviews. Utter ****E.

Is this the one where the teenagers kidnap Anthony Quinn, with the theme song done by The Supremes?

No... i didn't think so.

Have never seen a single Shyamalan movie. And not looking forward to see one really. I wanted to watch The Sixth Sense some time ago, but thought it wasn't worth it since I'm aware of the plot twist.

Alright, to look at this from a different perspective.

This movie's ridiculous (and I'm not talking about whether it's boring or not but what happens in it). It's basically the earth and nature killing people and the message is 'don't harm the earth'. It only affects/happens to people living in populated areas. It's all about population control/the green agenda...the sorta thing Al Gore or globalists would support. I know it doesn't affect us. But movies like this, I Am Legend, The Simpsons movie, 28 Days Later (all good movies btw) are almost like conditioning to say 'there's too many of us on this planet, we need to kill some and reduce the population.'

It's like saying the earth's a living oranism in this movie and now it's taking revenge out on us or something, effin ridiculous.

anybody know what color "love" is on that mood ring wahlberg was wearing? yap it is green. so i guess in the end the two finally found love and then everything in the world was honky dory.

shyamalan didn't exactly go about this film in the right way though. it was totally marketed similarly to his old "twist ending" films. he doesn't seem to be putting much thought into his films, he comes up with a crazy ass idea, sticks his name on the title and endorses the checks that come in. i really think he is too influenced by the hoards of people that hate on him and he tries to please them instead of taking his time and doing his own thing. at least he's original, right?
