Heskey wasn't that bad. At the top of his game I'd say the comparison to Welbeck in terms of ability (not style) is fair to both.

England its going to be eliminated in the group stage.

No way, I actually have high hopes for this England side and I do agree with Sir_Didier_Drogba, selection should be based on form and momentum. shitty Rooney shouldn't be included ... however, Welbeck's OK ...

England players passion really amazed me and I'm glad everyone sang England national anthem ... thats a MUST ...

Regarding the match, England really really wanted it more at the end and fought hard for it. Germany is too vulnerable on thier flanks, Can and Hector are very average for World Champions. Also, there are specific group of players that simply don't care as much as they should when representing German national team. Germany badly missed Schweinsteiger quality and especially leadership. I guess it's time to talk Lahm out of retirement if they want to win this Euro.

Oh come on, Heskey couldn't play at all. Heskey was shit. I wouldn't start Welbeck, but he should be in the 23 man squad.
I'd rather take Rashford and Lingard ...

11 from the last 19 players to make his debut for England were Pochettino's players (Soton and Spurs).

Edit: Wouldnt he be a more appropriate manager than Mourinho for Man United?

Too early for Rashford. Too much competition for Lingard unfortunately and its Hogson so Townsend and Milner are definitely ahead of him.

Even Hodgson won't pick Townsend but yes he will probably pick Milner and I jus don't see the point, he's had an OK season sure but he won't be playing for England in the future and he's never that special so why waste a spot that could be used for developing someone like lingard or Antonio but Hodgson probably doesn't know they are English. Hodgson is such a fucking fool - I could manage the side better than him - you know he has announced Wilshire will definitely be selected if fit? I like the guy but he hasn't played a minute in months and months. I just don't get it - if he picks form players and different players and we go out early he still won't take much criticism because the public will respect the attempts to build, but if he picks this shitty same old players and goes out early then he will be pilloried from all sides. I almost think he is a secret masocist who likes being a figure of ridicule. I'm really pissed at Cahill and welbeck putting in like four good performances but at the only time when shitty Roy bothers to look so he'll just pick them because he probably thinks stones is something he just had an operation to remove from his kidney

Sterling is an automatic starter.

Definitely

Id accept Rooney in the squad but not to start and if he is brought on, not to play up front but in a playmaker role. Definitely no point in calling up Milner, Barry etc and also in my opinion you can take the players that were hyped but didn't live up to the hype (and now it's too late) like Walcott, chamberlain, welbeck etc but only if you have places to fill in the squad and absolutely not as starters.

We must remember what happened this season. We must think in the context of THIS season. For example, Cahill had some good games and has some caps, but what is he THIS season - he's the BACKUP CB at a mid table premier league club, that's all he is - can you build a squad based on back up defenders from mid table clubs? What's welbeck? He's not in the top 30 EPL scorers this season whilst the top and second top scorers are both English - how the hell can anyone justify starting him? Wilshere hasn't played a single minute for months and months whilst Ali has been an instrumental figure in an EPL title challenger. Barry players for severely underachieving Everton and will certainly be too old to ever play for England again whilst dier plays, no, stars, for severely overachieving Tottenham and as got potentially more than ten years of international football ahead of him if he gets off to a good start. It's just so OBVIOUS.

I think Walcott could be important at the end of games because of his pace. Jonathan Wilson noted recently that the lack of hype for this England team really has nothing to do with it's lack of talent, on the contrary I think this is a group of players that could succeed. Instead, it's a team of players who are not famous, and as a result the tabloid bullshit that usually goes along with England is not present. I really think this is a huge opportunity for England.

I've heard told that England are in a place right now similar to Germany before World Cup 2006, but I don't agree with that. I think it's much closer to Germany before World Cup 2010 because there are so many outstanding young future stars who have come into their own and seized their place in the squad. Germany had the generation of the 2009 U-21 Championship, England have the generation of Tottenham. Germany was not ready to win in 2010 or 2012, but they could have. England need to stop thinking they are Germany in 2006 (a team that survived with a LOT of crap players and a couple future stars who were nowhere near their peak--i.e. Lahm and Schweinsteiger). In fact, thinking of the team like Germany 2006 almost demands that Rooney start, because that team was led by Ballack. Germany 2010 did not have any established stars: Ballack was gone, and it helped the team.

If you are talking about Hodgson selection process (when saying what England need to feel they are like) I think you are crediting him with putting far more thought into it than he actually does, what actually occurs is he looks at a list of english players one night over a curry and goes 'me recognize that name, me pick him'.

Wrt Walcott and pace, we don't exactly lack pace with players like Sterling on the pitch. I guess Walcott has versatility as he can play up front or on the wing, but I can imagine him being a right pain in the arse like he is at Arsenal constantly begging to start and play the CF position he wants then blowing every extended chance he's given. I mean, sure, I guess it's inevitable that he will get in the squad but again if we were looking for an injection of pace from the bench and he is fit then I would look to Sturridge every time (assuming Vardy's already on the pitch).

Not the selection process, rather where they are in developing a lot of talented youth players at one time. Look, England isn't Spain in 2008, Germany in 2012, or France in 2016, but it is clearly on the verge of something pretty special. England actually has the talent RIGHT NOW to win the Euros. Of course, so do a few other teams, but the fans and the management need to see this and understand that it is NOT because of Rooney and Barry and Milner, but because of Dier, Alli, Kane, Sterling, Smalling.
