Retiring from international football at the age of 29. First reaction was to laugh because he's a pussy, but it's not like he would have won anything with Argentina anyway, lol.

He will now officially never reach the heights of Maradona, Zidane or Pele.

True, he's to Maradona, what waz Zico to Pele. Great club career but unsuccessfull/unlucky at international level.

Well, he played in 3 world cups and 4 copas and won nothing, he tried his best and carried his team to some extent ... But its his story at the end.

People underestimate Xavi/Iniesta influence sometimes. They won lots of national trophies without Messi too.

The football tourneys the past month have been the worst sports tourneys I've ever watched. Dead. I think all these guys need a couple months off or something. But the off-the-pitch stuff has been super-exciting. Ronaldo showed his true colors yet again, proving he's the whiniest self-absorbed prick on the planet. Meanwhile Messi shocked us all by reacting like Cam Newton, the second whiniest and self-adsorbed athlete in all of sports.

Why the fuck did he retire? There's still a decent chance at the WC....

He is absolutely broken, losing so much finals the way they did is very cruel. Also Argentiba is a nation that projects its frustations on him.

Where the fuck did you bring that from? What has Zico won at Club level that gives him a great club career?

What trophies? The only thing they won without him is the 04/05 Liga trophy (when he only made his debut), when Xavi wasn't even that influential, and Iniesta wasn't getting minutes.

remove your Farcelona tinted glasses and re read again. He said they won NATIONAL titles without him and that's a very good point.

That time football was more than just europe ... he won 4-5 Brazilian league titles, copa libertadures and then they dominated Liverpool (European super power) in Intercontinental cup ... that flamingo team was building block of Brazil 1982 ...

National titles should surely mean Spanish national titles. International titles would be UCL and World Cup/Euros?
