I actually prefer the new one, but don't particularly mind either.
The issue with your grey bar is how it would look on the mobile site - which plenty now access the site through.

It'll probably take some getting used to, but it's... refreshing. Everything is easy to read, the colours are subtle etc.. This is just my opinion of course.
Some people just don't like change, but over time they should adjust.
Edit: I see the like thing is new as well, which is cool too. For a second there I thought that perhaps there could be upvote/downvote system like on reddit, but the current one seems frisky enough.

The new layout is fine now.
It was the previous experimental layout that was slow, laggy, buggy and hurting the eyes. I'm glad they switched to xenforo. Its much better.

Now after having gotten used to the new layout of the forum, I have one complaint. Don't you guys think that the font is too big? If I recall correctly the last version had it smaller. Or can stuff like this be personalized in settings? I know you can do it from your browser, but I don't want it to apply for all websites.

One more thing that irritates me is that when you copy some text from another website and paste it here. Then it appears in the exact same font (+ size, in bold if it's like that etc), so you have to format it so it would look like the other stuff you've written.

That's a feature not an issue. If you're using Chrome, use ctrl-shift-v instead of ctrl-v to paste raw text. That's standard Chrome.
The difference is the new forum software allows rich text and pasting images and text formatting straight in.

Quick-Tip: Hold CTRL and use mouse scroll up/down to increase/decrease text size in the browser.
This IS a feature as mentioned before. Use the workaround mentioned earlier. This should not be removed imo.
