If I'm ever president of a sports team with their own stadium I plan on renting it out to porn companies when it isn't in use. You could do all sorts of niche porn in a stadium. Some company actually filmed in the Coliseum in LA and even turned the floodlights on.

This would bring new meaning to defensive penetration, filling the gaps, and sacking the quarterback.

Eh. Stone ya back

A fifty-something-year old friend of mine from California came to visit few years ago and he was so excited about these puns, he was like "DUDE! You really really, need to do T-shirts with "I got stoned in Estonia" on them and sell them to tourists, you'll be rich!". I never listened to him...

I can't recall which thread had the stand-up conversation. Anyone here likes Bill Burr? Love the guy, going through his specials lately, hilarious stuff.

Well I watched one called Let It Go which I was not overly keen on, it was well performed and it was very funny in places but there was a lot about it I didnt like - generally I am less fond of comedians who do the "fuck you, I give you 100% of the money to make 100% of the sandwich" (that was his joke about putting the mayo on himself) thing, that sort of brash sense of self righteous outrage against fairly insignificant things which involves belittling low wage workers. And I also felt a talented ranter like him should have got more political. However, I also downloaded one called Why Do I Do this, but it did not download properly and the image and sound breaks up to the point that it is unwatchable but I can still make out the themes, which is a shame because from what I can hear it sounds like it would be much better.

So for me the jury is still out on him.

Fili what is your opinion on David Cross?

Why Do I Do This and You People Are All The Same are better! Though I also liked Let It Go. I love the way he describes the general approach to women, it cracks me up.

Never watched his stand-up, only know him from Arrested Development. (that's him, right?)

Haha I dont know, I never watched Arrested Development. Check out "The Pride is Back" and "Bigger and Blackerer", they are not consistently funny but there are definitely bits you will like. Generally I dont like comedians who use props, but because most of Cross's are specific to that performance (cf the little sandwich card in Pride is Back) I can forgive him somewhat. He is also a bit of an athiest ranter, but than that is unavoidable in many comedians these days.

Also, after a long time being unsure about Carlin, I have finally embraced him utterly. I got the bad luck to watch two of his worst performances first (Life is Worth Losing and Complaints and Grievances), but recently I went through most of his back catalogue including his cd albums and it really really grows on you. "You are all diseased" is a masterpiece, and his final performance "It's Bad For Ya" was a superb swansong after a couple of mediocre ones which I mentioned.

I dont generally like it when comedians go on too much about women, just because it has been done so much, but then having said that I generally dont like it when comedians talk about their pets, but the bit Burr did in Let it Go about rescue dogs and his new pitbull was superb - "it's so sad, he was abandoned and lived wild by the LA river for two weeks", "yeah? Well he seemed to manage to get enough protein!" (H)

I think Burr is very good but I don't like his "angry about everything, and Bostonian" style. I'd watch his special over most others tho.

Yeah that just about sums up my opinion of him.

Also if you want a recent really good just plain old fashioned funny comedy special, with no politics or religion but pretty clever in its own way, check out "Me Doing Standup" by Norm MacDonald.

I saw that over a year ago and loved it. I've been watching his podcasts on youtube (look it up!) and I never knew how funny Norm is.

Rhod Gilbert's lost luggage has got to be one of the best stand-up routines going, particularly the put-down to the cab driver at the end!

I really wanted the worst thread of the year award when I started this thread. My intentions were good. It's too normal now
