Benfica were yesterday in Champions League the only team with no Portuguese players in the starting XI. Madrid, APOEL and Chelsea had 2.

Like i said many times, to me theres no way that a team like Benfica can mantain his DNA/Blood, his "mistica", his meaning of being the team it is when theres like no portuguese players playing. We achieved our best football years when we had like a squad of 85% portuguese players (?) and now what? All the portuguese players sucks nowadays? or is just our country teams that are just blind as ****? Millions of euros spent in players that dont even know our history or what it means to play here, when we have quality players out there, that one of the best things that could happen to them was playing in a team like Benfica.

German teams have always been pretty good at that - I think it's because Germans dont want to leave Germany and non-Germans dont want to go there.

Sort of sounds like English football that. At least Portugese players are getting games in other leagues though, barring Wayne Rooney and maybe Joe Hart; I couldn't point out another English player that I could realistically see in a AC Milan/Bayern/Barcelona/Real shirt.

Which is immediatly the reason why the English NT is one of the most overrated national teams and also why they always underperform in the big tournaments.

I completely agree with both points. The quality of the players in the EPL isn't that great however the style of football is action packed which is what brings in the crowds. You'd argue this has been proven by the lack of English teams in the Champions League at this stage compaired to previous years.

Don't think it's fair to connect England (allegedly) always underperforming at tournaments with Chelsea being the only English team currently remaining in the CL.

Also, English players not tending to represent those clubs is not because they are not good enough. If the EPL was a selling league like Dutch, French, Argentine, Brazilian, Africa as a whole, etc, some English players would play for the likes of Milan, Madrid etc. Instead its the richest league and all the clubs want to keep their home-grown players.

I didn't mean it that way, I was trying to say the English way of importing "cheaper" foreign players isn't really allowing the English players the chance to play, as Coruja said about the Portugese game. Alot of the lads I know who have had time at clubs like Swindon, Southampton and others have been told they generally aren't good enough, I'm not saying it happens to every player though.

Style also sucks, i hate all the box to box stuff. But thats just me i guess.

It's not the thinking man's game but it'll get your general clueless football fan watching the English game because it's quicker.

Yeah, come to think of it, La Liga is just like the Scottish premier. From all the top leagues.. it's the most boring one by far.

Scottish premier doesn't has a team such as Espanyol or Betis, you can enjoy with even Zaragoza there.

Don't know about Espanyol, Betis..etc. But how exciting can a league be when you know that ONLY two teams have a chance of winning it. It just takes all the fun out, and that won't change for years to come..
