Russia is affiliated to UEFA (well, who would prefer to be affiliated to AFC, UEFA is way more challenging for the Russian teams), that's why they play on the Euro and UCL/EL.
Geographically, just a small part compared to the whole territory is in Europe, and the bigger part is in Asia. I really don't care about giving a specific continent to Russia, but I'd say it's more Asia than Europe.
It's the same thing with Turkey.

Russia was, is and will for ever be a dynamic part of European life and history, just have a view in your school books of history. Russia, as a huge state is extented also in Asia, it is simply a proof of Russian nation power. And personally I think that russians are more Europeans than other nations in arts, sports, science and other critical points of human values. There are European nations that blooded all the world once, twice or have established racism. They have been fed by smashing slaves and black people. Russians are not innocent of course, but they are definitely less quilty than others. Respect to the 65.000.000 soviet people lost in 2nd world war.
