Where did he state that? He was discussing the USA's national debt, so I don't see any point in bringing India into this discussion, regardless of whether king's points are valid or not.

I beg your pardon? That is completely irrelevant to the point I was trying to state.

Shut the fuck up about the India bullshit already..

Seriously man, calm down, if you want to argue, please send a PM instead of posting off topic - of all the threads - you chose this one.

Anyway, on eBaumworld, there are some videos of it. It's pretty shocking, there is this Indonesian pagoda style restaurant. Hard to see what's being taped to be honest, but it's fairly high from the ground (2-3m). Within seconds the actually restaurant is waste-height in water.

Has anyone got an official casualty toll? :(

Me? I wasn't the one going on and on about India being a superpower and all that crap. Exactly. This is not the thread for such nonsense.

Please, just stick to the topic, like I said, PMs are there for a reason. This is certainly NOT THE THREAD to do whatever your doing. Just let it go, mate, let it go.

Also. My mum's friend was in Phuket, she wasn't killed or anything, but she is helping with the relief effort. I have never met her, but apparently she is the "I will save the world" type.

The before and after shots are... shocking. How could something go like this:

to this?

Btw, is that whole thing about Sri Lanka and India not being warned because they aren't "member nations" true? :kader:

Mayor

Starting XI
no, because they have no warning system like Hawaii or Alasca has
they said they will install those, shame that so late...but better late than never, it may save another 90.000 of ppl if another tsunami will come in

The sad thing is, alot of the villages that were wiped out were rural fishing villages which may never be able to rebuild. :(

Time to put your money where your mouth is"
------------------------------------------------------

...courtesy of the Reuters news agency of Britain, here is a synopsis of tsunami-relief aid pledged as of Tuesday. I have re-ranked the list into unabashedly nonpolitically correct order, beginning with the “infidels”:

Japan, $500 million; United States, $350 million; Norway, $180 million; Britain, $96 million; Italy, $95 million; Sweden, $80 million; Spain, $68 million; China, $61 million; France, $56 million; Denmark, $55 million; Australia, $47 million; European Union, $40 million; Netherlands, $34 million; Canada, $33 million; Germany, $27 million; Switzerland, $23 million; Ireland, $14 million; Portugal, $11 million; South Korea, $5 million; Taiwan, $5 million; African Union, $100,000 (the AU nations have human-calamity problems of their own, but should be congratulated for caring).

Here are the predominantly Muslim nations on the list:

Qatar, $25 million; Kuwait, $10 million; Saudi Arabia, $10 million; Algeria, $2 million; Bahrain, $2 million; Libya, $2 million; United Arab Emirates, $2 million; Turkey $1.25 million.

We can forgive Afghanistan and Iraq for their absence, for obvious reasons. But where is Iran? Egypt? Pakistan? Oman? Morocco? The oil-soaked sultanate of Brunei? Where are Jordan, Syria and Lebanon? And why are Bahrain, Kuwait and the Saudis such cheapskates when their spiritual brothers and sisters are dying by the tens of thousands?

Kuwait is a good case in point. Kuwait is running a $10 billion budget surplus, according to The New York Times, and recently distributed huge wads of cash – some $700 million – to its citizens, courtesy of a doubling of the price of oil.

Kuwaitis, being wealthy, do not like to get their hands dirty. They import tens of thousands of foreign workers – more than half of Kuwait’s population, many from Indonesia and India – to cook their meals, scrub their toilets, tend to their children and wax their Jaguars.

They are not heartless. A Kuwaiti newspaper reminded its citizens the other day that they should allow their domestic help to use the telephone to check back home to see if their families have been wiped out.

Gee, thanks, boss. May Allah, praised be his name, reward your boundless munificence.

A NY Times editorial says:

“For all of the invocations by Muslim leaders of the ummah, or the global community of believers, they typically do little to help their fellow Muslims in times of crisis. Arab leaders and their toothless talking shops like the Arab League and the Organisation of the Islamic Conference are excellent at denouncing problems in Palestine and Iraq, but most stood silent as a million died in the war between Iraq and Iran during the 1980s. When President Hafez al-Assad of Syria massacred some 20,000 people after an Islamist uprising in the city of Hama in 1982, there were no expressions of outrage from the Islamic Conference. Egypt routinely tortures political prisoners, untroubled by fears that other Arab leaders will seriously condemn such actions.”

According to Bergen, “Now the same pattern - action by Western countries and inertia from Muslim states - can be seen in the efforts to provide relief for those hardest hit by the Indian Ocean tsunami. While 100,000 of the victims are from Aceh, the most Islamic of Indonesia’s provinces, Muslim countries are contributing a relative pittance. Oil-rich Saudi Arabia is contributing the most: a paltry $30 million, about the same as what Netherlands is giving and less than one-tenth of the United States contribution. And no Arab governments participated in the conference in Jakarta on Thursday where major donors and aid organisations conferred over reconstruction efforts.”

--------------

It only means that we can not rely on the Muslim world to help us in the time of crisis. What could be the reason of this indifference? Any idea?

A telethon for tsunami victims on Saudi state-run television has raised more than $77 million, and the Saudi-based Islamic Development Bank pledged an additional $500 million for affected countries.
