To be fair, if it happened in some place like Bournemouth there'd just be some old dears going "Ooooh, I don't like the look of that wave. Let's see how this turns out."

Yeah, it's in Cantonese.

Their accents are a bit off but I could understand at the beginning "Wow that's a big one" or "Wow that's a very powerful wave" and then "Run Run Run Run!" at the end :p

Hmm.. ****. That does show how powerful the wave is. The beach looks all chill. People is like "Ai yo, sup homey 'G" then that first wave comes with. Straight to the concrete wall, up to peoples knees. Then it starts pulling that person out, another wave smashes into the wall.

(Then again, that is only because they were too stupid to move.)

Well, the average Joe Singapore won't know the difference between a Tsunami and an ordinary, big wave. They clearly thought, "Ooooh, somebody's going to get wet! FILM IT! We'll make £250 from this."

Failed to realise that those two were CAUSED by humans, and that "Mother Nature" had virtually nothing to do with it. (Also - upto 20 million Russian civilians died in WW2) Those people died because someone wanted them to.

These people died because of an unfortunate earthquake and inadequate warning systems. :(
I know these people died due to a 'natural' disaster and I am sorry for that. There has been other earthquakes too in past like the ones in turkey and iran. Okay, they were not as major as this one but people cared for a while, then they moved on as we will. It changes the life of people who actually went through this horrible incident.

Yes, because God is responsible for everything that happens on this rock. Nonce.

There are storms on every sodding planet. Is that caused by an unseen, all-powerful being?

NO!

It's an occupational hazard of being on a planet which has a gravitational pull. It's a hazard of being on a planet which at one time was a volatile magma ball.

It's a hazard of being on a planet which crust consists of continental plates. It's a hazard of being on a planet which still has an eruptive core.

Scientifically speaking it could be the plate tectonics.

But then one still asks the question "why plate tectonics"...and for every answer, one can still ask "why". Eventually you end up with an infinite regress. So either the answer is "God is the original cause for which one need not ask 'why' ", or there is no original cause and reality really is just an infinite regress.

I think the ultimate cause of this as with any other occurrence is God.

Whether He/She meant it as a punishment or if it was just a random act of God, or even if it was some form of a reward - who knows?

Regardless, you can't ignore the fact that incidents like these change people's lives. And in the end, isn't that all that keeps us going. One change after another. You never know what tomorrow holds.

Just the idea that one can go to sleep never expecting anything to drastically change the next day...and then it does...

NEW DELHI: India, which had refused international aid for its tsunami victims, has been helping its neighbours with relief work in an attempt to project an image of a regional superpower.

The Indian government had even refused an aid offer from China which offered a $3 million aid package for tsunami victims in India. It has now joined in relief operations being carried out by the United States, Australia and Japan. Diplomats said the motive behind this move is India’s urge to be recognised as a major power in the Indian Ocean along with these countries. The Indian navy has launched four rescue and relief operations — The Operation Seawave (along the Andamans cost), Operation Rainbow in Sri Lanka, Operation Castor in the Maldives and the Operation Gambhir in Indonesia..

Army sources said that India was using Israeli-built Searcher Mark II drones to assess the damage from the mishap.

In the Andamans islands, where a unified tri-service command was headquartered, India has decided to set up an integrated relief command under Vice-Admiral Raman Puri, the chief of the integrated defence staff.

India is also uncomfortable with the proposed visit of a high-level team from Washington to the affected areas.

Why is India rejecting any foreign Aid help?

I was quiet stunned and some-what impressed with india when I read this news. My opinion would be that India feels that severely affected countries are more needy.

Even though many of you who hold grudge against India would say that India is trying to be something it is not. All the effected countries, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Sri Lanka are richer have more resources and better living conditions then India but they welcomed help. But lets face it, any country that can be self sufficent and not rely on western governments is making the first steps to real independence

If India is self sufficent and can provide aid for its poor than its great.

India is desperate to make itself seem like a large, powerful, wealthy nation. By rejecting foreign aid, it seeks to do this :crazyboy:

Holy fucking shit. Anyone seen the before and after screens from CNN.com?

There are more there. That's just insane, if the tsunami had hit Malaysia that seriously, I think it would have wiped about at least 40% of the nation.

listen its good that pak didnt got any hit, if they did, they would be even worst then srilanka, and india is self sufficient and we r getting wealthy each and everyday, and it is good that we are helping other nations, and we would have helped pak if they had the hit. take a newspaper everyday and look at our stock market. it is climbing up very rapidly:rockman: :rockman: , thats why pak is trying to make good relations with us.
