U-20 South American Tournament

It started last Sunday. This tournament is used as the qualifier for both the U-20 World Cup that is going to be placed in Canada and the Olympics, so it should be very interesting. 10 national teams are trying their luck on the tournament, divided in 2 groups of 5, here they are:

Group A
Brasil
Bolivia
Paraguay
Peru
Chile

Group B
Venezuela
Argentina
Ecuador
Colombia
Uruguay

The results for the first matchday:

07/01:
Brasil 4x2 Chile
Paraguay 0x0 Bolivia

08/01:
Uruguay 0x1 Venezuela (what's up pasion? (H))
Argentina 1x1 Ecuador

Brasil debuted in a 4x2, with goals scored by Leandro (2) and Alexandre Pato (2). Pato is tipped to be the next big thing for Brasil, and one of his goals was a marvelous backheel shot following a low cross. Discuss.

I'm just teasing Pasion mate. I remember the 3-0 humbling at Centenario 2 years ago or somethin.

That wasn't the only time. In the last 5 years, IIRC, we've only beaten Venezuela once, and it was a friendly in which they used youth and back-up players. *shrug*

who qualifies for the world cup?

The top three teams from each group form a hexagonal, with the top four qualifying to the U-20 World Cup. In addition, the winner and runner-up's also qualify to the Olympic Games.

My opinion on Venezuela-Uruguay, neither side played nice football but on the long run Venezeula made a better use of their chances, and their keeper, that Rojas guy had a very good match, looks like a promising player. I still don't see why this is such a "big surprise".

Now about Argentina and Ecuador, Argentina made a nice work in the midfield most of the match, but couldn't finish some of the chances they had 'cuz Ecuador's defense made a very good job, although at first there were a lot of fouls. The subsitutions that Ecuador made seemed to be the most accurate ones because they played a alot better on the midfield, and could score their goal, got to admit that Argentina's defense was up to no good in the second half. Not the best result for the first match, but in the U20 it always seem to happen that in their first match on any tournament they don't play as a team, but in the other matches they get everything together and play some nice football. Probably Di Maria and Acosta should play together from the start.

Still got to see the how Colombia is doing, but if they are in the same shape of the last tournament then they have very good chances. I think that Argentina and Colombia can make it through to the second round and i see Ecuador with big chances, got to see if Uruguay wakes up in the coming matches, and/or if Venezuela gets to play better.

Hey, pasion1, how do you like Uruguay wearing the new brand Puma gear? I think they look a lot better than what they did with Uhlsport.

Yesterday games:

Paraguay 1x0 Chile
Brasil 2x1 Peru

Brasil won a tough match, with a goal scored in the last minutes by Lucas. In the matter of fact the boys from Inter and Grêmio are stealing the show at the moment. Lucas scored a brace yesterday, and Pato scored a brace against Chile. The team didnt play well tho, average at best performance.

I've read that Brazil are extremely desperate to qualify for the Olympics, cause thats the only tournament they havent won. That was kinda new to me, heh!

Pato is looking to be really good. His progress also seems to be very fast. Ive heard of Lucas long before, and only now I see him at international level. Pato has like 5 pro games and he's already scoring againts international opposition.

Hahah, we lost 2-1 with Colombia, well done. With a bit of luck Argentina won't even qualify to the second round and that will teach the greedy clubs about letting the players out for the U20, specially for those *cough*Boca & Racing*cough* that let away the players but still bitch about it, because when Boca won't be able to sell that prick Cahais to the second division of Israel and the rest won't be able to sell players overseas because the national team is doing **** because they won't give out the players then they will whine about the national team, but eventually they will disolve like the **** they are, for not supporting the national team, when there's a good plan and good ideas and that selling 17 years old to teams like Liverpool isn't always a good idea.:rockman:

Yes, Pino had an excellent match, however i'm afraid that he could become overrated quickly.:S

Lennon is right, overall the teams seem to be pretty even, but still i don't see any "big surprise".
