UCL 1/4 Final - Arsenal vs Juventus [P+R]

Arsenal-Juventus: Round One

Whilst an English and Italian club will take the field on Tuesday night, it is two Frenchman who could make the real difference. Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira will face one another for the first time since the latter was transferred this summer and both will feel they have a point to prove against their former clubs. Thierry was bought by Wenger in 1999 after a brief spell at Juventus, whilst Patrick left Arsenal in July.

The North London club have had a difficult season since the departure of their ex-captain in the summer. They are currently sixth in the league, out of both cup competitions and may have to win the Champions League to have any chance of taking part next season. Their domestic record of ten defeats in thirty games is disappointing for a team who, two seasons ago, went 49 games unbeaten and their coach Arsene Wenger has conceded that his team are in a ‘transition’ year. However, despite this, Arsenal have shown signs of improvement recently, with nine goals in their last three league games and a return to the free-flowing and quick-paced football that won them the title in 2002/03. Their form in the Champions League has also been impressive, they are still undefeated in the competition, having conceded only two goals in the entire campaign.

Whilst Juve played a tough, physically demanding game against Roma, Arsenal’s weekend fixture against Portsmouth was cancelled, meaning they will not have played since their last Premiership match against Charlton on 18th March. The bianconeri will also be without Alex Del Piero, who sustained a thigh injury in the game on Saturday night, and Pavel Nedved who is disqualified. However, sitting at the top of Serie A, having lost only once in the domestic season, Capello’s men have shown that they are more than capable of sustaining their form in the long-run and should not be fazed by the proximity of the games. As the Puma said: “…for us the Champions League is a hugely important target and so we have to put any tiredness to the back of our minds.”

The Juve coach described the tie as “the draw of the round”, with both teams desperate to progress and Henry and Vieira eager to make their mark the match seems unlikely to disappoint.

Arsenal certainly wont get the same freedom to play their game like Madrid gifted them.

Yes you may have a point. Look at the way Juventus stopped Bremen scoring against them......

How big is YOUR penis?
I don't wanna see any English club win the ECL except Man Utd. Will be interesting to see how Highbury welcome their former captain. Will he be booed at or getting a standing ovation ? Or the both of them maybe . . .

Can't believe that I will ever see the day I expect Vieira to play well. Now let see wheter Juve will **** up like they did with Liverpool last year or not.

Arsenal will win the first leg I have a feeling.

But then again, the narrow Highbury field is an advantage for Juve's solid central midfield as they have less space to cover.

Juventus midfielder Patrick Vieira believes that the major difference between his current employers and former club Arsenal is their will to win. Vieira spent nine seasons at Highbury before switching to Turin last summer. “There's such a will to win here at Juve,” said the French ace. “They are so used to winning. I feel pressure to do well and that hadn't happened in a while at Arsenal. What makes Juventus so successful? The hunger to win, the hunger to improve, the hunger to fight for every ball. I know I wasn't at my best over the last two years in London, but I believe that each time my form has dipped I've been capable of pulling myself back up. Perhaps I needed a new challenge, so this move came at the right time.”

so hard to call this one

could be a 1-0 or 1-1

or 0-0

probably 0-0, I wanna bet so bad but I don't know

cause Juve will be in defence mode and try no to concede for sure but you never know Henry can nail one in

This year i don't even know that to expect from Juve, or Arsenal. Will Camoranesi be on point? will Zlatan? no one know what will happen so i don't know what to expect... might be 0-0 might be 3-3 might be 3-0 too open for me to bet. i say expect the unexpected...
We gotta work the arsenal right wing and swirl Flamini out of the game.

I like to see English teams do well in Europe but i honestly think Arsenal will have an hard time against Juve.

But its all about what happens on the day... like against Real Madrid... i thought Arsenal were in for an hammering... and look what happened.

But its definately gonna be a good game for the neutral supporters :)

Arsenal(from): Lehmann, Almunia, Eboue, Toure, Senderos, Hleb, Flamini, Fabregas, Gilberto, Pires, Henry, Djourou, Song, Bergkamp, van Persie, Reyes, Walcott, Diaby.

I couldn't find a team list for Juve.

From the above, I'd like to see...

-----------------------Lehmann-----------------------

------Eboue-----Toure------Senderos-----Flamini------

------Hleb-------Fabregas----Gilberto-------Pires------

-----------------van Persie-----Henry-----------------

If fit, I'd prefer Reyes to Pires.

2-1 Arsenal, I'll say. Henry, Hleb and Trezeguet. But I'm never right.
