Rooney played in a free role during the first half and just behind Saha in the second half.
Well, then, his free role instructions must have included to stick on the left side the whole half helping Heinze defend and make those long cross field crosses to the right side, because not once did i see him play on the same level as Saha or anywhere on the right at all. It was a clear 4-5-1 tactic, that Fergie has been using in Champions League ever since Benfica game.

Dominating the game doesn't mean that the tactics were good. Did any of you see United have a clear chance were they could make a shot on goal? Apart from Balde's first half **** ups, it was all about United passing the ball around the back and midfield, then trying to put Saha through and either giving him a bad pass or him getting surrounded by 2-3 players to easily take the ball away.

As soon as Rooney moved up behind Saha in the second half, we started to look at least a little bit more threatening, taking off Sno helped a bit too. We just bunched up the midfield and didn't give any chance upfront. 4-5-1 tactic is designed to control not rout the teams and we should have went full attack on Celtic, because they were scared for 45 minutes. After Jarosik came on, they slowly started finding the gaps and punished us.

Now we are in a similar situation to last year again, where we play Benfica again and can't afford to lose to them. Benfica will give everything they got, kicking us out the second time would be even sweeter for them.

Oh right, you probably wanted Carrick to rip the Celtic defense apart, just like Ronaldinho does sometimes.

I thought Carrick had a good game tonight. You guys will probably say he's sh*t but he is the silent influence type.

Today Carrick played just like he should, always open, quick passing, always got the ball out of trouble and nothing fancy that would endanger the team. Nice, simple and kept the flow going.

Celtic are shocking, the only reason they're top of the SPL is because Rangers are garbage, the refs are bought, and Hearts have a losing fetish.

United should win this one by a healthy amount.

are you mike parry in disguise?

for god sakes is there any1 here who didn't know which side he would shoot the ball to? its always the left for him, i would have liked ronaldo to take it. i think all we manutd fans had that sinking feeling when nakamura took the free-kick and when saha took that penalty. **** i think the boys will turn the tables around against benfica this time.

I hope that this referee never referees another game at such a level. That goal was nowhere near being a foul and the penalty was very debatable.

Nakamura...how many free kicks has he scored for Celtic already?

His accuracy is simply unbelievable..

Actually apart from Celtic's freekick, he was spot on everything else i thought. The penalty was a little soft, but it was still no doubt a penalty. The guy jumped out to block the ball with both of his hands sticking far out from his face. Definite penalty, plus the ref probably realized that Celtic should have never taken that freekick too.
