UCL - Real Madrid C.F. vs. Arsenal F.C. {P & R}

I agree with you about the calls bit, and its the culture of simulation that forces them to do it, which makes it even more tragic. Some refs just lack that all important common sense, but if thats the case, id rather they be more loose with the rules, and let things go too often than whistling everytime someone gets breathed on.

And about the Flamini tackle, was that first half? I didnt see anything prior to 37'

Well, look at it.

Carlos is 5-foot-nothing
Cicinho couldn't tackle in a phone booth
Woodgate would injure himself eating
More than one of the central backups is a converted midfielder/fullback

Yeah, I think it was about 20 minutes in. I should have video of it tomorrow, so you can have a look at it.

Well I'm not usually an Arsenal supporter, and I usually get anoyed at Arsenal's players such as Reyes, Van Persie, Pires, and Fabregas for their diving and acting, but this is my opinion on these situations.

As for the Reyes coming back on to the pitch...
It was extremely poor sportsmanship, it was disgraceful. However, he has a right to crawl wherever he wants to. As far as I know he wasn't complaining about Real Madrid not playing the ball out, he was just injured. He hasn't really committed an offense except for unsportsman like behaviour, and that certainly doesn't warrant a red card.

The Beckham/Lehmann penalty shout...
Lehmann went down to get the ball, he did so, but it hit Beckham. Then what was Lehmann supposed to do? Shrink to the size of a fly? His body is still there, Beckham for me, just ran into him, and I'm not saying he was looking for a penalty, because he didn't even appeal, it was just basic physics. It would have been a very very harsh decision to give a penalty.

Cicinho's acting...
When Fabregas was booked, Cicinho's legs were already dragging (as if he'd been clipped) before he'd even touched Fabregas, and then when he threw himself into Cesc, of course he fell over. It's like the Beckham incident, Fabregas was only running, he didn't stick out a leg or anything, Cicinho decided to go down too early. Then he definitely had moments of dramatization on injuries but it seems a lot of players in the Spanish league do this, and there are definitely numerous players who do it in England such as Ronaldo, most of the Arsenal squad (well some), etc... so I'll leave that alone even though I hate it.

Overall officiating...
I thought it was fairly weak. The ref seemed to blow up for some baby touches, like he thought football was non-contact. If Bobby Moore were playing he'd be laughing his head off at some decisions like this... I don't think it's always the referee's fault, I think it's got to do with people higher up in FIFA... taking away the physical side of football... but oh well, the referee wasn't too bad.
There were definitely some poor offside decisions, but that comes in every game.

I loved the goal from Henry, hope we can finish it off at Highbury but i tell ya what Fab's passing ripped Real to shreds :) , Reyes was burning Cicinho and i thought flamini played quite well out of position

What Reyes did was cheating but it wouldnt of effected the game at all Arsenal had the ball when the ref pulled up play we would have just put it out anyway

Woodgate injured again, can't help but laughing at it.

The guy will go down as an injury legend.

Madrid should just wrap him in bubble wrap when he's playing.

go gunners go !

Was expecting a draw but a win will just do fine but the job is half finished and i am very dissappointed at arsenal not scoring more goals.

zidane looked completely out of sorts...he wasnt just given any space at ALL !

madrid can easily score at highbury but return of arsenal regulars (cole, bergkamp, campbell) would just boost their chances.
certainly hope they go through.

Fabregas was just a legend in there today as were Dilberto and Hleb, maybe Real Madrid underestimated how good technically arsenal are.

Gravesen got owned by Arsenal reserves at everton last year so, their midfield was not daunting at all

Fabregas has owned gravasen at goodison before too when he was 17 in a 4-0 win, if Real want to win this game, they are not gonna do it with him in the side, besides im not convinced of his qualities as a dmf just because hes bald and big doesnt make him a dmf. He played further up the pitch for Everton

Enjoy the moment Arsenal fans. You defense saved you yesterday. Don't expect us to give you an easy time at Highbury.

Yes he did save us from a heavier defeat but this game was poor all around. At times your players were giving up balls and we were doing that all game. We also had chances to score as you did. Not to mention the penalty. Even so we played like sh!t and did not deserve much of anything. I expect a great rematch.

BTW what Shev guy says its pretty right, if we were facing a better team last night we would have lost by a lot more. You guys were not amazing by any means but you got the job done, which is what Wenger wanted you to do.

You act as if that's a rarity. The defense is supposed to save their teams, it's their job....

I know Spanish defending is behind by a few centuries but I mean no wonder so few can defend! They don't even know what they're supposed to do!

I don't know if you've noticed, but only Chelsea have really handled us at Highbury. We're a bad away team

That said, Chelsea, as previously mentioned, would have dropped 7 or 8 on you yesterday.
