I don't really follow the team, I only saw one game and the players I listed were the ones that made an impression on me.

But the name Joel Sonora does sound familiar, he could be an FM wonderkid or something.

why don't the US play in the Copa América? it'd make for a lot better quality practice (and blooding of youth) than CONCACAFfing around till the next World Cup rolls round ...

Did good for Australia to join Asia IMO

yeah, similar scenario ... Australian football improved its development arc by joining a stronger competition; the US could do the same ...

admitedly this would be a periodic visit, and would be a significantly higher jump, but the benefits are obvious: test your projected 2018 squad against some world class opposition, and give players some first-time/renewed exposure to playing against the big star names from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Uruguay, while also giving them a chance to take something from a senior tournament, off the likes of Venezuela, Bolivia, Peru, etc. ... it's a nothing-to-lose / everything-to-gain scenario if the event is included and planned for in the calendar ...

I think there's some version of the Copa America that will be played in the USA in the next couple years.

Klinsmann hates the Dutch, because he's German ... Klinsmann hates the Germans, because he's considered American now ... middle fingers are a dish best served chilled, during a casual summer evening ...

also, U20s are through to the WC quarters ... cautiously expecting a result against Serbia for a spot in the Youth WC semis ...

Serbia tore Mexico a new asshole, so interested to see how US stacks up with them.
out after 120 scoreless minutes, and 9 rounds of penalties ...

@Bobby: any chance you watched the game?

I only caught the highlights ... both teams had glorious chances to win it ... Tommy Thompson should have 'sized the day' ... #KnowYourSerbianisms

Zackary Steffen looks the real deal ... Soñora was somehow the only sub used in the match, and was one of those who missed ... no idea how Zelalem did, apart from converting his pen ...

Not a bad way to go. I also don't know who the hell Freiburg's keeper will be this coming season in the 2.Bundesliga, but if Steffen is really that good he should stand a great shot at winning the job.

That would be awesome, it's a really good level for our players and they'd be right under the noses of bigger Bundesliga clubs.

that one-off Copa next year better not be cancelled ... Jamaica only went down by a goal in each game, and have tested themselves against some of the best ... the MNT need to be playing competitive games of this caliber more often than a Confed Cup and World Cup ...

all they have to do is schedule the gold cup in a different year from the Copa America. that way both the us and Mexico can participate and send their best squads to both tournaments.

I wish the Mexican federation pushed the Gold Cup to be on a year when the Copa America isn't held, or were actually smart enough to know that sending a strong team to Copa America is the best choice to see how the team stacks up with solid competition. But that would be too much to ask. At this point they don't deserve an invitation to the next Cup.

Edit:

Posted almost the same thing at the same time jimorrison did. Not sure how I feel about that...

The Von Trapps
lol ... well, yeah, the point about the Gold Cup not coinciding with the Copa is regardless valid ... if the EUROs can be held the same year as the Olympics, and the time difference ensures that there would never have to be a viewing schedule conflict for North American audiences between the EUROs and the Gold Cup, I don't see why the move can't happen ...

it'd ensure very competitive games every summer leading up to a World Cup on a 4 year cycle (1 - Copa, 2 - Gold Cup / Olympics, 3 - Confed Cup, 4 - World Cup), allowing for progress and preparation to be consistently planned for and measured at the highest levels ...
