Villarreal v Arsenal -- Champions League Semi-Final Leg 2 [P/R]

The Legend
Villarreal v Arsenal (Arsenal lead 1-0 on agg.)
El Madrigal; Villarreal, Castellón
25 April 2006 20:45 (CET)

Referee: Valentin Ivanov (RUS)
Assistant referees: Nikolai Golubev (RUS) & Tikhon Kalugin (RUS)
Fourth official: Aleksandr Gonchar (RUS)
UEFA Referee observer: Pierluigi Pairetto (ITA)

Villarreal: Viera, Barbosa, Venta, Alvarez, Pena, Arzo, Arruabarrena, Josico, Senna, Cazorla, Font, Sorin, Riquelme, Roger, Rubio, Mari, Franco, Guayre, Forlan.

Arsenal: Lehmann, Djourou, Eboue, Campbell, Toure, Clichy, Flamini, Pires, Gilberto, Diaby, Fabregas, Reyes, Ljungberg, Hleb, Van Persie, Henry, Song, Walcott, Almunia.

Milestones:
- Both clubs could reach their first Champions League Final, Villarreal could reach their first European final. Arsenal are past winners of the UEFA (Fairs) Cup and Cup Winners Cup.

- Arsenal are unbeaten in European semi-finals, having played five.

- Villarreal are looking to become the 6th team to win the Champions League at the first attempt. (Real Madrid [First ever CL], Aston Villa, Celtic, Nottingham Forest, and Inter Milan)

- A clean sheet would see Arsenal break the clean sheet record for all European comps (10), currently held by AFC Ajax and Arsenal. Ironically Ajax (along with tiny Thun) have been the lone European sides to breach Arsenal this season. Something that could not be done by Real Madrid, Juventus, and Sparta Prague.

I have no idea what to predict...

It will all depend IMO on Gilberto Silva and Cesc Fabregas being able to shut down Riquelme like they did in the first leg, and if Riqelme can get help from the other midfielders...

I would love to see Villarreal somehow turn this tie around, but I don't think they will.

1-1

aye :( but theres always hope. (:/)

A battle of 2 overachieving teams. Oh how I'd love to see Tacchi to go on and win the entire thing. Villarreal are a much more likable team with the players they have.

True, but the style of football they play is just a pain to watch and would definitely ruin what could be a very entertaining final for a neutral like me (Arsenal vs. Milan/Barca)

i agree man. While no offence to Arsenal fans, but everytime I see Henry I want to kick his ass .

(his face just screams "pompous asshole" and when he punched his own player 2 years ago for no passing it to him, that just siezed the deal).

But Villarreal, those are a family after all that's happened this year.

I have faith for some reason. I know right now they are in their rooms saying to themselves: "this is it....one of the biggest moments of our entire lives"....They're going to show what they are made of tomorow.....i have a good feeling (they are going to bring a War to Arsenal))

What?!?! Henry's never punched a teammate.

Haha... loving all the Arsenal hate here.

Villarreal have Sorin who is one of the biggest c*nts in football. That in itself automatically negates the whole "Villarreal is the more likeable team" thing.

Pasion is talking out of his ass. Henry punched a teammate...?

We've seen that if Riquelme is shut down, Villarreal lack any kind of creative impetus... and he can easily be shut down.

I think we can go through. Villarreal will have to attack which will enable us to play our counterattacking game. One thing I love about our team is that we can play slow as well as fast now, and an inability to do this had undermined our performances in Europe over the years.

0-0 would suit me perfectly.

More important for us to keep clean sheets than it is for us to score goals, we have a young defense and it really boosts them everytime we keep one. Plus Sol is playing, and he could really use some confidence.

Sorin's c*ntiness far outweighs those players combined... it's cosmic. Our players are mere mortals.

I agree with most of the c*nts you listed but...

Why are Gilberto and Cygan c*nts? Cygan of all people, he's just crap, that's all.

Yashwin doesn't care about white people :nape:

Villarreal have little chance. But in football is 11 vs 11 so, you never know.

I see a Villarreal 1 - 0 Arsenal , Riquelme x1 and Villarreal will win it in the extra time with a goal from Senna.
