WC Group C: Argentina v. Côte d'Ivoire {P & R}

Argentina didn't impress me much in the game against Angola, granted it was a warm-up match and they looked to only be putting in an 80% effort... still, I'm gonna say this will be the first major upset of the tournament! 0-1, Drogba!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fernandez

Team Captain
Argentina will win this match and they will win the World Cup. Argentina will be fired up after the disappointments of 2002.

Isn't anyone in the bench better than Saviola? Tevez for instance?

Yes, Tévez and Messi but Pekerman feels that Crespo has a better understanding with Saviola than he does with either one of the two. Palacio is another option but he is not better than Saviola IMO.

It's just the first match, and he can bring Tevez and Messi if needed, i have the feeling that there may be some changes with the starters as they move on the matches.

Well i don't remember seeing any keeper substitution in a world cup, except for injuries or red cards, but if he doesn't do any good then he will be off for the next match.:p

I cant believe Messi wont be starting ( Is he still a bit injured? Or just that the coach wont start him? ). IMO he is way too good to be on the bench.

Nope, he is fully recovered. The doctors say that he is at 100% and it has seem that he is by what we saw against Angola and during training. Pekerboy wants to take him little by little so that anxiety does not get to him (whatever that is supposed to mean) I cannot believe Tévez is not starting :nape:

Here is a video of him from a couple days ago, he seems to be quite well...

I think Pekerman thinks that Saviola's experience is needed for the first match...

Also Saviola is more vertical and faster than Tevez, maybe thats what we need against Ivory Coast...

I like the formation, Maxi is on fire, and he is fast as Saviola...

Here in Argentina some journalists are bitching becouse Tevez and Palacio won't play...and of course they say that Crespo shouldn't start the match...

We have the best subs in the WC (except Brazil, of course)...Messi, Tevez, Aimar, Palacio, Cruz, Lucho...

guys look at argentina's squad. messi is a worldclass player without a doubt but their bench could beat ivory coast just by themselves :)
ofcourse ivory coast is a great team but what i m trying to tell you is , messi is always a plus, but never a minus for a squad like that

Yeah, Messi is Argentina's best player without a doubt but I think I am starting to agree that he should be taken little by little. In the Sub 20 World Cup Messi was a sub the first game and we all know what happened afterwards...

But isn't Tévez a good choice since his strength can help him take on the Ivory defenders?
