Well, it's not like we were going to get a World Champion out of this match, but at least England could have put up a bit more effort...

We could, if and only if Portugal makes it to the final and Germany beats the Argies.

O dear England at there finest again lol

We were so poor at the start of the game, when we got that goal back followed by that lamp "goal". I thought great were pressing hard we may just win this back. But the team that played harder for longer won in the end but the first two German goals were right clangers. England were just poor, consistently poor since the start of the competition.

I cant wait till we get a decent keeper again.

What baffles me is the amount of Liverpool players we have on the team through the competition when they came in god damn 8th place or whatever it was. Clearly they were showing a complete lack of form.

Bloody carragher and Johnson are a liability. We played so much better in the qualifiers when capello was mixing things up a little.

Rooney has be well out of character... I don't think he's scored a goal since that ankle problem, before which he was unstoppable. I hope there isn't a injury else United maybe in trouble..

Live and learn I guess. onto the Euro's with any looking we may reach a round further... or not.

Wow as an Argentina fan, this is sad, that first goal was a gift. Its sad to win this way, I don't think we need to be gifted anything, and that referee mistake gave us the game.

This is certain now that FIFA need to change things around. Argentina and Germany were both handed gifts today, and I don't think this ia fair at all to England and Mexico. Shame the refs have done these two terrible mistakes, neither Germany or us deserve to qualify that easily, the refs have helped Germany and Argentina through to the next round. How ironic they both face each other now.

I dont know why England is complaining so much... It was clearly correct the decision of the refs.

No doubt about it that Germany were by far the better team and deserved to win that particular match. But what's key to keep in mind is that GOALS CHANGE GAMES MORE THAN ANYTHING, and if the right call was made, we would have seen a completely different match today. At 2-2 England would have been much more confident and wouldn't have given Germany two simple counter attack goals because they wouldn't have been pushing for the equalizer.

Heh, all you need is a team of Carraghers!

All these wrong reffering decisions are horrible, but does that necessarily mean that the team who is favoured from them doesn't deserve to go through?

For England to go out so embarrasingly though does place significant question marks. It was interesting to hear from Tyler before the match how he was surprised that Ballack reportedly says that the history doesn't mean much to the squad. Maybe that's the whole problem with the England squad. media and even possibly the footballing culture in general. Instead of looking forward to the future they always seem to look back to 1966. Whlist that is understandable to a degree, placing so much pressure on players in the here-and-now on the basis of that one win is probably the wrong way to go about repeating that feat.

As for the offisde call against Argentina it will be very interesting to hear, if not from the referees, due to their pact of silence and opaqueness, then the players, as to what happened on the far touchline. At first, the Mexican players crowded the officials and they disallowed the goal; then the Argentines came up and it was a huge shout-fest after which the goal was then given again.

Not nice, Heinze, not nice.

About the linesman form ARG vs MEX, I would feel for him if he weren't European (Europe supposedly has good refs).

You can't really give Torres a hard time when your team has this guy:

Well, he can actually. Does it make it alright for Torres to do that just because other players do? It's obvious Ronaldo also dives, but i's that much obvious Coruja would joke with what Torres did, since he's on the opposing team...

Although we were totally **** in the tournament and didn't even select our best side (where was Crouch? Why Heskey? Why Wright-Phillips?), my memory of this world cup will be feeling sick with anger at the fact we should have been 2-2 with Germany. It obviously changed the game. Yes we may still have lost but you can't be sure. Germany went in at half time feeling lucky and composed themselves, we went in feeling horribly cheated and frustrated. Then came out and hit the crossbar. Then played like dicks.

Had the goal counted we would have been in a much better position (both in scoreline and also psychologically), and the Germans would have been wondering how they just threw away a 2-0 lead so quickly. Also it ruined the best game of the world cup so far. I'd have been very angry even if it wasn't England. That was exciting stuff at 2-2 in the first half. To conclude: we were **** but c'monnnnnnnnn that was just ******* horrible.......

How convenient of you to blame Rooney's awful tournament on an injury while lashing out at the poor performances of the LFC players by accusing them of terrible form! Typical! Just waiting for a chance to bash a club, rather than addressing the poor form of the entire national team. Either priorities are out of place(possibly explaining your team's apathetic WC showing) or you're looking for a scapegoat forgetting that of England's 3 TOTAL goals in 4 games(HA! at that stat), Steven Gerrard scored 1 and assisted on 1.....

I think your reading to much into what I said about Rooney. I was trying to ask the question of how he went from unstoppable to crap. I actually don't think it has much to do with the injury and more to do with who's feeding him.

Besides that's got nothing to do with the price of beef. I was trying to point out what a great number of players have done all season to warrant a place. Capello picked better in the friendlies and qualifiers.
