Barthez was so shaky in goal....I was laughing after he nearly spilled Ronaldo's free kick. After he "punched" it away,he had that look on his face like as if to say (to his teammates) "Dammit, which one of you should I start screaming at to get the attention off of me!"

"Oooooh, this could be trouble..."
"Barthez with the finger, Ronaldo's lining it up!, where's he going to put it!"
"It's been spilled, what's on those fingers? Ronaldo looks up and lets out a scream!"

:(:(:(

I'm wasted.

congrats to France, they did what they had to do after scoring their goal: defend the best they could.
although it was truly annoying for us portuguese and surely not pleasent for the neutrals to watch.

I think we did not deserve to lose this way, were slightly better in the first half and missing our few chances in the second half killed our hopes. I reckon we did enough to get at least a draw.
still can't believe Figo missed that sitter :(
Deco was useless, truly disappointing performance. I was really expecting him to have a major influence in this game, but he seemed so damn tired today.....

oh well, we'll be back.
really proud of our team, we had a great tournament.

I wish Zidane wins the whole thing with France btw, good luck to him.

about the Saturday match, who cares really. it's always good to win though :p

what else can I say....

Congrats to the French, tough luck Portugal.

Not a single team I wanted to win in the semis progressed... but I think those who did go through deserved it, so let's hope the final will be a good one.

I'm so sad right now, driving to work this morning and seeing the gloom in people's faces, no emotion... looks like after a month's vacation depression is back on this country. BUT... honestly, it was much worse 2 years ago, when Greece won the Euro. Back then, we all felt the best team lost; this time around the best team won. So, congrats to France and good-luck.

Breaking down our loss, there's 3 main factors and a couple minor reasons for our demise:

1) We have the best midfielders and defenders in the world. Getting this far in the biggest competition on earth with such a mediocre striker proves it. I don't want to crucify Pauleta, but facts are facts: he is useless against good teams. He can't hold the ball, he can't make a pass, he can't open for a team mate, he can't score a goal.
There's a play that defines Pauleta as a player and, in a certain way, is a metaphor for his career: he gets the chance to control the ball in a favourable position in relation to his markers, but lets the rock go past by him and dives shamefully.
I genuinely feel that with a class striker we would have been the best team this year.

2) I said early in this thread that Deco could be the decisive man - and he was. He got more time to rest than everyone else, but still he couldn't move his ass. Deco totally buried us in our attacking moves but, more importantly, he did not defend.
Carvalho, shortly before the play that led to France's penalty, was screaming for help from our magician. France realized Deco did not cover for their DM's runs into our midfield, which led to a 3-on-2 advantage outside our box, which led to Henry getting the ball inside the box with only Carvalho to mark him, and you know what happened.

3) Faith. We got this far by believing we were better than what we really are. Our mental attitude - also known as 'heart' - gave us an enormous confidence boost. Yesterday, especially in the second half, we did not believe we could beat France.
It isn't easy to explain, but you can smell when a team believes they can overcome a negative result and when they can't.
To be honest, I also did not believe we were going to play the final in Berlin since finding out our opponent was France.

The referee

I was surprised to see this uproar against the refereeing after the game, both from Scolari, some players and some supporters. I thought he was okay, honestly. In fact, if he had carded every player that dived both teams wouldn't reach the end of the match with 11 players.
Oh well, I guess the English have to blame it on their opponent's best player; we put the blame on the ref.

Verdict:

Portugal's a good team when it stays on their feet.
England's dodged a bullet with Scolari. 4-6-0? What a flange.
Ronaldo hit back at his criticism but diving considerably more.
Ronaldo still can't take defeat.
Neither can Scolari.
The refereeing in the semi finals have been tip-top.
France deserved it, although defending deep was risky.
France defending like they did shown that Portugal really don't carry any forward threat.
Ronaldo was trying to headbutt a club teammate, 48 hours ago. Yesterday, he was drowning in his own tears. Schiz.
Ricardo's been Portugal's player of the tournament.

funny Beckham was crying as well last Saturday and no one even mentioned it in the press.

Guess it's ok for a 31 yo married with 2 or 3 kids to cry but it's not for a 21 yo immature boy.

Even John Terry who is hard as nails had tears rolling down his face.

Hipocrytical ****s, the lot of you.

portugal were pathetic in every field today except in goal and right back.

the main problem is with a recognised striker.
Portugal need a class forward to play.
neither pauleta nor gomez has helped the cause.
maybe boa morte would have helped.putting Simao on was not the best of decisions by scolari

apart from that they could have scored when barthez played "volleyball" off ronaldo's free kick.

bye bye portugal..
France deserved the win.Zizou looking younger than ever

stop acting sick you pathetic freak.
there's no f*cking need to bring india in now and then you SOB.

I proudly support the English NT since 10 years and will continue to do so cause that's where my heart is.
WHy do you give a damn about it?
ANd what I said about Portugal was in no means WRONG.
yes they do need a good striker and they played bad as per expectations. I felt bad for a friend of mine's who's so passionate about Portugal to see him dissapointed about Portugal not being that good yesterday.

If u cannot digest the fact that Portugal are out then please for God's sake f*ck off and dont interrrupt again.
There was no abuse for Portugal in my post.
