Germany have sounded out Arsenal's French manager manager Arsene Wenger about taking over from Rudi Voeller as national coach.

The 54-year-old Gunners manager, whose contract at Highbury runs to 2006, was surprised but non-commital, said the Abendblatt daily.

Franz Beckenbauer, head of Germany's World Cup organisimg committee, has already proposed Wenger and Dutch coach Guus Hiddink as the men to lead Germany to the 2006 World Cup.

Hiddink led unfancied South Korea to the 2002 World Cup semi-finals four years after leading Holland to the 1998 World Cup semis.

He is currently coach at PSV Eindhoven.

Both men speak German.

Greece have already warned Germany about trying to poach their German coach Otto Rehhagel after he led them to their Euro 2004 triumph.



This look very unlikely to happen...

both Wenger and Hiddink are very good coaches. But Hiddink would better pick, besides it's very doubtful the Gunners will let Wenger go.

Hiddink is dutch! This disqualifes him.
I don't think he would get much respect and the dutch would laugh at us

I won't be supporting our nt anymore if it's coached by a Dutch. I'd rather take Berti Vogts over Hiddink.


Wenger is the best choice, he speaks the language fluently and is one of the best coaches around.

Matthäus would be my second choice.

No chance Wenger would manage Germany.

I think he has publically said that he is not interested in managing at International level.

I think Hiddink may be killed before he arrives at the first training of the German NT... he personally hasn't ruled it out.

Both Hiddink and Wenger speak German by the way.

Zac as the German Coach?? That would be interesting. Though I wonder if the German NT could successfully play with a 3-4-3?? Nah, I can't really imagine it...

Wenger would be a great option but I highly doubt that he would opt out of Arsenal to become Germany's Coach...

Well we played 3-5-2 at World Cup 2002. I think 3-4-3 would work.

Wenger is almost sure of not leaving Arsenal; I think it will Hiddink;he did such a great job with Korea.

I think HIddink wud be acceptable, I also think they shud get Berti Vogts back, he was a good coach, i dont see why people think he was a bad coach...another thing...

zac and wenger...i dont even want them to coach Germany, thats not something id liike to want, i am a huge german fan and I really know whats best for the team, and thats hiddink or Vogts again, otherwise there gonna have to scout for some more coaches...
