I am just curious what formations everyone is using

4-2-3-1:rockman:

PS....the key to mastering world class...is OTB. I know it is a pain, but once u know how to use it, and use it well.....u get some very nice build up goals and damn satisfying when it works;) The key is...u have to know(mermorize) who is 1,2,3 for when each player has the ball..no time to look up and see who it is. You have to recognize that there is a gap for Zidane to run into and immediately use OTB in a split second. And yeah I am using Madrid...

4-4-2 i using man utd. i not use to use OTB control. just normal passing and score.

HINT: while you dribbling, try to press up and down. so that cpu will harder tackle you and if they do so, they will foul you and you have free kick. i learn it from cpu and i use back on them

I was using 3-4-1-2 in Serie B but not 4-4-2, and I have to say 4-4-2 is excellent for defence. I've conceded one goal in 9 games (scored 19).

I now use 5 - 2 - 3 Its a well good formation with Man Utd, With Giggs and Ronaldo as the 2 extra defenders and wingers who provide wing play, with scholes and keane in the middle and Roony Van Nistelroy and Smith up front, giving more passing options up front, and the 5 back gives a solid defencive line.
It works for me, It might work for you tool.

I never use OTB either, frankly I don't understand what's so special about it.

Maybe I'll do a season in Mexico soon.. what team do you suggest I go with?

4-2-3-1 is great. Two midfielders to control the middle and break up play, two wingers to drag defenders across and send in crosses, and a playmaker behind the striker to put in sweet through balls.

I've used it with Valencia, Bayern Munich, Ajax and Arsenal - best formation ever!

I used to use 3-5-2 as well, but in the Premier League where all teams use wing play I was leaking too many headed goals so I switched to 4-4-2. Might give 4231 a try.

I think you should use different formations for these teams as it is in real life. Bayern and Arsenal almost always use 4-4 - 2 and for Ajax you could try 4-3-3.
Yes the 4-2-3-1 is very used in the Spanish teams
You should use all the tactics possibilities and not only one.
I think this way, it adds more deep in the game and also don't forget to change the tactics during the match with the IGM.
I think you guys should also don't hesitate to put some good players on the bank and practice the turn over . You will probably won't see in real life, a Real Madrid starting 11 with Ronaldo, Figo,Zidane, Morientes, Raul and Owen and MU with V.Nistelrooy,C.Ronaldo,Giggs,Saha , Smith and Scholes playing together.
Well that's my way of seeing the things and prevent the game to be too repetitive

I've been messing around with 4-3-1-2 lately.

It seems like a decent formation for concentrating on attacking through the middle of the pitch.

Peace out...

Absolutely agree. Valencia is defaulted to 4-2-3-1 in 2005, and with Ajax and Bayern, it was more a case of getting the players I wanted on to the pitch (Obadai instead of Mitea, Hargreaves instead of Pizarro, etc). With Arsenal, I'd argue the effectively play 4-2-3-1 at times, with two defensive mid's (Vieira & Gilberto) and front players who tend to float.

I don't change every team to 4-2-3-1 though. I changed Chelsea from diamond to 4-3-3, with Lampard, Makelele and Smertin across the middle, and Duff, Drogba and Gudjohnsen up front (L to R). It's a fantastic formation for the counter attack - break up play, hit it to Drogba, and Duff & Gudjohnsen seem go searching for space to run into.

But my best ever results at semi-pro level came from the most unlikely source - Monaco, which is set to 3-4-1-2 (wingbacks, and a playmaker behind two strikers). Crushed Real Madrid 5-0, a team I struggle to beat with the best European sides, and beat Inter 4-0. It has to be the tactics, nothing else.

Scorpion you are the man...5-2-3 is THE BEST...

Great defence and as long as it is really easy to get the ball to the offence the two players in the middle are enough. And then when attacking you in fact have 5 as the the two winger play really front...
REALLY good

i've used all the formations and i've found that 4-4-1-1 is the best. Its easy to keep the ball in possession on the attack. For some reason the CF and the ST run into the right spaces and allow me perfect passing routes. The winger also is of great help moving inside into the box and passing it to the CF for the shot. It also allows me to have better defense against goals. 4-4-1-1 is the best.
