What happened to Brazil in WC 2006

Ok, no one gives a damn anymore, but still, I think it's worth a thread.

Ricardo Teixeira, Brazilian FA eternal president (he's been re-elected again, and is set to be president until the 2014 WC if Brazil is chosen as host - he was first elected in 1989) was reported by Brazilian newspaper O Estado de Sao Paulo to have revealed some 'secrets' about the Brazilian preparation for the World Cup.

Among other things, he said:

"There were players who would arrive between 4 and 6 am. Drunk."

About the time spent in Weggis, Switzerland, preparing for the tournament:

"It was obvious it wouldn't work. How didn't anyone see that?" (yes, he didn't see it either)

He also mentioned Ronaldo's weight, one of the main talking points of the tournament:

"How can an athlete come to a World Cup weighting 98 kilograms? I'm almost that weight and I'm no athlete."

Who knows man, they all play 60 games per year, its difficult to maintain a top level, and im sure some of them went out and party , i mean they are humans to, and have stressfull lives specially when all eyes are over them.

I do go out and party all the weekends, and if it was stresfull week i party harder

We all know that team had the potential to win the world Cup easly, but man they are no machines

All I can say on this matter is that "no one is perfect". Everyone makes mistakes....just look at the girls that Ronaldo got involved with....

Yeah but it was a World Cup year, they should know that if will be a long year.

They were a major disappointment and let their country down.

Yeah but not in the middle of a freaking World Cup...

That was reported on our local tv network's website too. I'm not sure though where they had heard that, an interview or something?

It's about to hit the fan: Ronaldo wants to give an interview in the weekend to tell what went on in 2006 AND 2002.

In the meantime, Teixeira has denied saying any of that. Unlikely. O Estado de Sao Paulo is one of the most respected newspaper in the country and I doubt it'd make up a story like that.

Italy had a better team perhaps? The Brazilians generally get heavily overrated. Especially Ronaldinho.

With the players we had on paper we could beat Italy anyday. Anyday. The problem is we never performed and our coach was a dumbarse. Italy played to their full potential, that's why they won the World Cup. And even so, France played way better than them.

Still they have to play all those games in their top form , like if clubs care if is a WC year, they still squeeze players. its almost imposible to get in your top form after such long season in modern football

They DID let us down though

I heard that this is the reason behind Dunga being the new coach, to put some order into the team. That's why i think some players that didn't officially retire from the national team will never be called anymore, like Ronaldo.

Italy apparently did have better players, as they did have the right mentality/attitude to perform.

They had equally good players that played "well" as a team (by that i mean they did enough to win the whole thing). Individualities wise Brazil has the edge.

The problem is our individualities except for Kaká are pretty much near unprofessionalism.

Remember that 98 Final against France where Brazil lost 3 nil?

It was almost too obvious that the match was fixed. Players didn't give and Ronaldo was out of the team sheet until the very last minute. It ruined the tournament for me.
