Winning Eleven 6 First Impressions

First, Let me say I have played FIFA for the last 2 years on an XBOX. Today I played WE6 for the first time.....

Since I found out that WE6 was coming to the states, I had been looking for my opportunity and money to go buy a PS2 and WE6. Well the time had come. The rush of excitement was incredible as I grabbed the PS2 controller and waited for the game to load. My buddy (who also bleeds FIFA) was as excited as I. We were about to play for the very first time the much talked about soccer sim that had taken Europe by storm over the last couple of years. The very game that seems to hover over and make jokes out of the FIFA franchise. The very game that gets hyped all over the net as damn near the second coming. Once we navigated through the menu and were selecting teams the lack of a FIFA license was obvious - So what! I know this game is all about game play!! The game started and my WE6 career was about to explode..... the players took the pitch, the crowd was in a frenzy and then.............. Play started and the reality of WE6 hit home

"What the hell is this?" was my first impression and last. The graphics were so so at best, there was NO responsiveness to the players and their movement. All human controlled player responses were very delayed, like we were playing the game with all 11 players all tripping out on a Valium and XanaX cocktail. My 2 year old can kick a soccer ball with more velocity than these guys. And how about those freaking huge letters telling me it's a GOAL KICK , or THROW IN - I understand the game, you dont have to take up a third of my screen telling me that. To enjoy the game I needed to pop a few Xanax myself. I kept wanting to send a player on a run into open space and then I forgot i was playing WE6. I modded my xbox just to play ISS2 and thought that was a step up from Fifa 2002 - But a far cry from Fifa 2003. WE6 seems like only a little better version of ISS.

For all the talk about this game and all the anticipation....... I just don't get it. In my opinion this game is very over rated. I understand what everyone says and I see some of the positives. But I can tell you 10 times out of 10 - I am going to play FIFA.

Ok, hands up who thinks this guy is a complete liar!

What a dork. Never even seen the game, I bet you. If you love FIFA by all means keep playing it but given nothing in your review (if you can call it that) is remotely true or accurate in the slightest you obviously have never played the game. At least when Konami fans or indeed FIFA fans talk about FIFA 2003 they accurately describe what's wrong with the game. You didn't get one thing right at all. So obviously:

You're a lying dork. Go make up some other stories.

Same happended to me when I first tried WE5 after playing FIFA2002.

Ask me now... I'd 'trash FIFA'... right away..

Freedom of speech means you can criticize somebody's use of the freedom to say dumb things!

Nobody is saying he can't say what he wants but the fact he's talking out of his ass means the majority of repliers thinks he's a lunatic. And this is on the FIFA forum!

I'm not sure what you mean by the players movements being slow. I only played FIFA for a long time (because it's the only soccer game I could get my hands on in the US) and thought it was awesome until I finally got WE6I. Yes, the graphics aren't that impressive (it is the PS2 after all, a 3-4yr old console) but the gameplay is amazingly realistic and you have to set up plays like you would in a real soccer match. And the Master League aspect makes makes the game an actual simulation, <gasp>, where you can actually build a dream team from scratch and trade/buy players. What does FIFA have? You can take your team through a whopping five seasons where players don't age and you can't trade or buy new players.

FIFA is a fast moving game but totally unrealistic especially with some of the newer gameplay patchs that make the game even faster (no hard feelings Sameer, great job with a bad game). It's actually kind of humorous having the CPU players hound you, having passes ricochet off your own players repeatedly, and then finally scoring a goal after passing into the void left by the opposing team. And, I can't stand the fact that heading isn't possible without being challenged. Great graphics, all the player and team names/logos but totally lame gameplay. I still play FIFA every once in a while though....don't know why really.

I can't believe someone would flat out lie like that in order to bash WE. It's obvious he didn't play the game. (If u did, sorry for saying so, but i really really don't believe u did). This coming from a FIFA fan myself. When i first played winning eleven, i knew it was much more than fifa. However, i think the best part about winning eleven is really learning how to play, like me. Once u're good, u can perform great looking goals in so many ways.

Actually, if your first statement was false, i really really recommend u do go try it. This game didn't get crazy reviews by so many different site (like gamepro, ign, gamestop to name a few) by just being an average game. The reviews tell truthful opinions. After u learn how to play, u won't stop playing.

i believe he meant that the controls are a little laggy. This problem is solved in WE6FE.

Oh, and about responsiveness of players.

You can only shoot when the player's foot is set in the right place...just like the real thing.

You can only pass when the player's prefered foot is in the right place...just like the real thing.

It's hard to change directions when you're holding on to the R1 sprint button [a very bad habit from playing FIFA]. You HAVE TO mix it up with letting go of the full sprint button, pressing R2 'semi-sprint', changing speeds and directions..... just like the real thing.

Don't expect the player shoot, pass or move at the touch of the button... cuz it WON'T work!!

You've constantly gotta time the player's foot/run, think about the prefered foot, check if you player is being pulled by a defender or not.
Cuz this DOES effect how you shoot, when you shoot, and how responsive you are... all about ballance.
Just like you can't shoot a perfect 300mph shot on goal with your back to the net or when somebody is pulling you from behind or fighting for the ball shoulder by shoulder.
.... though it works in FIFA2003<--- NOT realistic.

If you keep all this in mind, and realize the realism KCET has put in WE,.. you won't ever complain 'bout what you did.

Obviously, the game was TOO real for you.

We've exposed many a liar before, and this whole story sounds very suspect to me. Either that, or the guy's never seen a match of soccer in his life (I think the EA programmers haven't either :) )

WE6:FE is incredible though at time I so agree sending players' on a run at the push of a button like FIFA would be welcome, but the overall gameplay kills FIFA 2003!! :)

Maybe I'm dumb, and I'm sure many of you will say: yes you are! At this very moment they read what I am writing.....but still, coudn't care less about what you think about me....well what I intended to say was, that I really don't understand what people that so obviously love ISS, WE and PES still hang around in a Fifa forum for???? I said it before, maybe it's me that is dumb, but I don't understand it!!! If you don't like the game, then why do you hang around here?:confused:
