Freekicks are probably the best aspect of WE/PES series... I wouldn't trade it for anything.

But if they HAVE TO improve it, well, then maybe you could train for a certain "step-over/pass behind/3 players run, one shoots" combo that you could choose from before you take a shot....

Anyway, the freekick system is the last thing that needs polishing in WE/PES.... the dribbling and passing could use some, though.

A big problem with PES/WE when compared to the ever-failing Fifa series, is ATMOSPHERE.

Factors contributing to the lack of atmosphere in WE/PES: (not that Fifa has all that, but they compensate with commentary and license)

1) Bad commentary (I play now without commentary and it's MUCH better)
2) Bad crowd noise/attendance
3) Robotic player animations
4) Terrible add-on onscreen graphics (The TV-logo, the result board, the bar that shows up showing the players name, announcing the result after a goal...etc) They are ALL far from what you see on real tv.

So away of complicated gameplay changes, maybe for a change, Konami could pay considerable attention to the 'small things'... like what I mentioned before.... coz when you improve many 'small things'.. u get an overall big improvement.

Suggestions for fixes:

ROBOTIC PLAYER ANIMATIONS

Any real player runs differently according to many different factors, for example:
1) Emotional factors:
Is he winning, and not in a hurry? Or is he losing, desperate for a goal?
2) On field factors:
-Where in the field is he running? A defender, away from all the action, runs differently than a striker in the last 1/3 of the field.

-Is anyone running with him? A player alone on field runs less cautiously than a striker surrounded by or accompanied by a defender.

-How long has he been playing? A player who spent 60 straight mins on field tends to save his energy by taking some 'walking pauses' during the play. Another fresh substitute will be all enthusiastic and energetic in his moves. Is is SO UNNATURAL to see all the players on the screen running at the same time.

What is he doing?
When you're running to tackle a player, you tend to put all ur momentum/weight into your run. When you're running to catch a player, all you care about is speed. When you are approaching a player, you run then pause a bit as you approach to see what the player in possession is planning to do with the ball.

These are all different factors that change the way a player runs according to the different situations.

So maybe instead of Konami only capturing players' default running movements, they should capture them in different situations... to produce a far more realistic player animation model.

Player reactions:
Players should be constantly waving to each other, blaming each other, clapping to each other, looking towards the bench, looking to other players, making gestures...etc. And more importantly: This should all happen constantly during the duration of the match in real gameplay i.e. without needing to pull cutscenes.

All of that removes the robotic feeling.

BAD COMMENTARY

It's not just the lame-a$$ comments and phrases. It's the atmosphere. You're almost 200% sure from the tone of their voices that they are sitting in a Konami studio reading out these stupid comments. You don't get the feeling that they are sitting in a 80,000 packed stadium with loud noises cheering a game everyone's been anticipating. Just listen to the commentators voices in Fifa.... its as if they are trying to get their voices heard despite the noise of the screaming crowds... that is GOOD.

Now besides changing the voices and preferably the commentators themselves, A LOT has to change regarding its CONTENTS:

1) Descriptive commentary
They should be describing:
-The area a player is running to/from.
-Praising a successful skill move performed.
-The quality of the pass, praising a good one (they shud say its type). Its Quality as regards:
Spontaneous/Unexpected 1st touch pass.
A productive pass that puts a player face to face with the goal.
A difficult pass; pinpoint to a player between many players.
A skillfull pass e.g. with a serve in it

2) Related Add-on commentary
-Relating to a player's previous injuries.
-Relating to a player's previous goal in other matches.
-Praising a player who played a good game till then i.e. has a good score
-Relating to previous tournaments won by the team.
-Mentioning results of RELEVANT ongoing matches, and its effect on the team's ranking if that match's result remained the same.

3) Changes in the tone of voice
-Higher pitch when play is deep into either half of the field...
-Higher pitch at the very beginning of the game...
-Higher pitch of voice towards the end of the game...

*The purpose of all these changes and addition of variables to the 'Commentary System' is to have a system that cannot produce to identical commentaries in 2 different games. Just like the gameplay. This adds a totally new level of depth and interactive atmoshpere to the game.

BAD CROWD NOISE/ATTENDANCE

It's cool that KONAMI made the attendance varrying from one match to another. But its NOT cool that the Stands are now 40%...50%...60% full in very important matches.... such a turn off.

Now the crowd noise...

Terrible... just listen to the Fifa crowd noises... or tell you what, don't play Fifa. Watch a real match. However DULL and boring a match is, there is always a minimum SCREAMING AND CHEERING going on during the match. This is what makes atmosphere.

I mean, Konami, in their quest towards realism, have OVERDONE many -ve realtistic aspects of the game.
Like Sometimes the stands are empty-----> so Konami makes them TOO empty.
Sometimes the crowds are quiet-----> so Konami makes them TOO quiet for too long....

Other -ve aspects are overdone, like player fatigue, player ball control... etc

The crowds have to be more responsive than that.... like CHEER to a successfully executed skill move, a beautiful pass...etc
They should call out names of players who've done well...etc.

Many has to change about the crowds.

TERRIBLE ADD-ON ONSCREEN GRAPHICS (The TV-logo, the result board, the bar that shows up showing the players name, announcing the result after a goal...etc)

These are just SIMPLE GRAPHICS that are on screen all thru the game... just watch a real game and change them!

And Finally,
I guess if Konami could take care of all that, we'll have an EXCEPTIONALLY AMAZING game on-hands.

Well said, The_Knight .. I agree with you on almost all the points you mentioned.. Atmosphere is the point Konami should work in future versions for sure..

- Way better atmosphere (mentioned above)
- Faster paced gameplay, PES5 PC is boring compared with the PSP version.
- More fluid and realistic animations (receiving balls, passing, etc) and transitions between animations and gameplay, players body mustn't be vertical when running in a diagonal.
- More responsiveness
- Rebuild the passing (both, short and long) system from ZERO!
- All directions running/passing, not only the 8-direction system.
- Less cheating by the CPU, but improve the AI of it and reduce its foolness.
- Better GK animations (fifa animations are just amazing) and AI.

- etc, etc, etc...

PLEASE make a new, "next-gen" game, not a PES3.3

I've scored about 3 freekicks in 3 versions of pro evolution and now including winning eleven 9.

They really are bloody hard.

Mate it's really you, not the game. In this version I've scored the most amount of freekicks in this version. And most of them on online games. And no, I don't score most of my freekicks with the "laying off the ball and then shooting".

The only thing out of the set pieces that should change is definitely the penalty taking. Hopefully Konami decides to have the 10th version of the Winning Eleven series to be the introduction of a new penalty taking system.

I'd like to see...
More back heels.. many players use it aLOT, back heels to score goals too.
more use of the outside of the foot and better animations for it.
ability maybe to juggle the ball in mid game ronaldinho style.
slicker animations and no more anti-physic moves.
better game engine without hollow ball and hollow body parts (when you tackle the leg goes through the body)

A "dormant" structure and file system that allows for the creation and addition of as many leagues and tournaments, in infinite combination (a Calendar/Build mode, maybe) as we want.

3d, AI-driven crowd action.

A next-gen update on all models.

That'd do it for me; the community here would take care of the rest.

a "cheat" button...

attacking - press it n u will dive...like wen ur in d box...time it corectlly n u'll win a penalty...if not, yellow card...

defense - press while doin a slidin tackle n u'll go 4 the player dangerously...like "drop-kickin" him...

an "action" button...

wen fouled...they show cinematics of players almost gettin to a brawl...if u press the button...u actually get into a fight...with both players gettin cards or sent-off...

wen u just scored a goal...pressin it will let ur player take of his shirt, but get a card...

now i know these kinda makes the game more arcadey...but adds some "fun" elements to it too...but what i really want are...better gameplay n physics...and all licences to teams... (C)

Starting XI
I've said this before but here goes....

1)two versions of the same game and both available in the whole world. One for Europe were all the major European Tournaments are included and one for the Rest of the World but make both available everywere. include the ability to transfer teams from one game version to the other for world cup and conferartions cup.

This will gaurantee the inclusion of everyone. All popular teams all popular leagues. So I can play in the argentinian league and the Greek league finally with the ability to start a Master league in either.

2)full licenses...if #1 is presented to FIFA and Federations then I think the idea alone will bury EA which still is a far cry from a realistic football game

3)To quote GABS this is a great idea however my input is to simplify this to

1. Master League
At the start of the Master League, the ability to choose 2 teams, a national and club squad. So In the national team you could call up players and go through qualifying stages for major tournaments like the WC, confederations, Euro or Americas cup. Also use real money for transfer, I'm tired of the "points", use contracts and all that stuff.

I agree also on this and yes it would also be very nice when you steal the ball from opponent and go on counter attack and immediatly the crowd get crazy!
In all konami games the crowd is only shouting when the ball is near pen box area.
I hope i explained well

- Dynamic weather

- Realtime shadow's

- Real stadiums with depth (like the Amsterdam ArenA with a roof, and without depending on the weather)

- Better sounds
--- I want to hear different ooeehhsss depending on the amount of crowd and the chance a player has..... Just wide is Oeeehhhhh... high over is ooeehhh followed by claps!
--- I want to hear the ball hitting the adboards behind the goal (there are always micophones positioned there).
--- I want to hear different scoring sounds (Oooiii in Spain, Yeaah in England, Holland, etc.)
--- I want to hear at least 5 specific team chants

- I want to see the players do a warming up when you start the match. This means I do not want a menu where I can set my formation, kickers, strategy etc. I want the menu to dissapear and see the players warming up (seen from different angles)

- I want more referee's including linesmans with skills. This means you can score from an offside position at some times. Commentator: It is offside, but the ref says "keep on playing". He's going one on one with the keeper...... Ohhww... he scored!! Let's look at the replay... You can definatelly see that it was offside, the ref made a bad decision!
--- Experience
--- Respect (Culina has a lot of respect)
--- Positioning (How does he position himself in certain circumstances, will he see
--- Overall (percentage of good decisions > like 99% for Culina and 78% for a linesman)
--- Agility
--- Speed, etc.

- Full / More licensed clubs
--- Maybe fake sponsors that do look like the real thing. For instance: Siemens gets Siemans and Sony gets Zony. This way you can give al the teams the "right" sponsor.

- Better crowd graphics (Like FIFA RTWC or even better)
- Better pitch graphics
- I want players to warm themselfs up. This should also be visible for the players. Present it with a short movie where you can see the coach (you must be able to change his name and appearance as well) talking to his players and asks them to warm up.

There is simply so much that adds a lot to the game. I already read someones post about the penalty and free kicks! Awesome! I wrote it down earlier as well (for FIFA '99 I believe).

The gameplay is already very cool! Just improve the graphics, import about 10 referees, 20 linesman and a feature to add them yourselfs. This way you can create your own refs and linesman. Make it possible to let them make wrong decisions. Add the dynamic weather and lighting feature. Improve free kick / penalty kicks.

Improve the presentation of the game, but please leave the gameplay alone... Make the game a littlebit slower, but keep giving us a superb experience.....

Make EA Jalous!

Konami's dilemma:

In PES5 they wanted to offer a slower, more realistic gameplay... and in order to acheive that, they FORCED the gamer to adopt a different playing style, by doing the following, 4 changes against realism, but for the sake of slower gameplay:

1) Clumsy player control of the ball and drbbling
Pros:
It made you think better about how you want to handle the ball.
Made 1st touches more significant.
Scoring is more difficult than the unrealistically easy PES4
Cons:
In real-life, players handle the ball faster and much better. So the overall realistic look of the game has been comprised by seemingly stupid, clumsy players.
It's irritating that you aren't allowed to do what you want with the ball, when in real-life you could easily do.

2) Unrealistically slow dribbling and shooting.
Pros:
The pace of gameplay became slower, shooting more difficult.
Cons:
Passes aren't that slow in real-life, Konami will argue that in PES the pitch is much smaller than real-life pitches so the ball shud travel slower to keep the pace of the game on the realistic slow side.
And the ball doesn't stumble that much between players. Also in real-life, the ball doesn't spend that much of time in air in short passes.

3) Unrealistically strict refereeing.
Pros:
Slower gameplay, you can't easily tackle a player and simply start your attack.
Cons:
Many MANY unnecessary foul calls. Their goal is to slow down the pace.. and they irritatingly succeed.
In real-life, there is always room for pulling, body contact and loss of balance without making a foul.

4)Players don't automatically focus their tackles on the ball and on not making a foul, as in real-life.
Only Cons:
If Konami made them more focused on the ball, the gameplay wudnt be interrupted by the fouls, the players tackling attitude wouldn't change, and the pace of the game would be fast again.

NOW, how could we keep these Pros and eliminate the Cons... gladly with next-gen gameplay capabilities, KONAMI will afford to acheive this, thru:

1) A MUCH BIGGER pitch (The current player/pitch ratio is tooo low as compared to player/pitch ratio in real-life)
Cons:
-No fear of making the speed of the passes realistically a bit FASTER, now because building an attack in a larger field will consume more time.
-They can make shots travel their normal realistic fast speeds as the ball will consume more time to travel from the players foot to the goal...
-More gameplay possibilities.
-Larger spaces---> difficult tackling.

2) BETTER next-gen AI
That will force the player to adopt the gaming style KONAMI wants us to. Instead of forcing us to play that way using clumsy players, meaningless fouls and strange passing.

Suggested ADD-ONS:
-A Power-Bar for short passes. One that actually works and makes a difference. Like a tap could merely push the ball for a bolting player to shoot, while holding the pass key would send the pass for a long distance on the floor....

The_Knight

And this in-game player stand posture has got to GO.

In PES/WE, u see ur idle player standing with this gorilla-like posture, with an arched back and slightly bent knees, and widely seperated legs.... when do u see that in a real match?

In reality, when a player is not in action, he'll move around with a shuffling walk, or a brief jog, or sometimes stand straight then continue walking/jogging...

But this gorilla/tense posture, and the strange side-steps that players do when they are idle... are really out-dated...
