Winning games!

I've read people say how easy cm99/00 is, but I can't believe how hard it is in comparison to the new cm4 series of games! Well i've become addicted to playing 99/00 again and have some problems...

On 1999/00, my problem now is, I can't win games and I don't know where the problem is. Im Norwich and played for 6 seasons, 5 of them ive been in Division 2 and im now rooted to the bottom of the Div2 table, yet my squad, by Divison 2 standards, should be at the top. I've tried so many tactics, I just can't win games! Any tips?

Also, i'll probably end up going down to Div3, and then I want a clearout, but whenever i put players on the transfer list and however much £ I rate them at, no clubs ever come in for them. I don't want to terminate contracts as the clubs in debt as it is, is there a specific way to sell players? (like offer to clubs on the newer games...)

trust me mate, old CM isnt as easy as everyone raves on, its only easy if you've got cheat players, lol

Ive been saying the same thing on this forum for 2yrs now (and ebonix can back me up) TRY TRY AND TRY AGAIN, the best thing about CM is when you finally achieve what you want to after doing it honestly without cheating.

Sooner or later you'll come across a good tactic that works, and when you find it, you'll feel like the best manager in the world. So keep going.

Yeah i havent cheated with it so far, and im not going to, i want to get out of this league by myself, not looking too promising though lol. I know some people who cheat all the time, upping the balance etc, but I dont see the fun in it really. Its actually quite fun playing the game in the lower divisions and with hardly any money, i expected to beat everyone when i first went down to Div2 but its not that simple (bit like 'real life'!)

yeah exactly, but its the fact that its so rewarding - thats why i dont cheat.

Taking the club to the CL without cheating is a lot better than cheating and winning it.

The only real suggestion I can make is centralised tactics. CM doesn't seem to cope with constant attacks down the middle. Hence the success of WWW2 et al.

Can't remember the last time I won a major European trophy. I think it was back in those happy days at Southampton. It felt so rewarding because it was 2017 or something. It's so satisfying to start small and finish big.

Yeah, I remember taking Dover to the Premiership crown. That was sweeeet.

Alex, I'd bet that as TROD indicated it is a tactic which is needed to start you getting a few wins. I remember my first ever game on 01/02 I couldn't build a tactic worth sh*t. I got fired...from Plymouth! So see, it could be worse. Just keep at it and you'll crack it sooner or later. When that timecomes you can proudly take your place on the forum as a bloody know-it-all like Rony or TROD..or...em...me. :crazyboy:

yeah exactly, thats the thing with champ; No matter how many times it throws you down, you always get back on to prove to yourself that you're a good manager. And in the end you WILL BE!

I played my first ever CM game on CM9798 with Rotherham, i was sacked after 20 games, i remember thinking, "god this game is so crap, im getting 10% possession all match"... but look here i am with 6000 posts 6yrs later :) :)

Thats a damn good point. Especially when it comes to International management.

In my current game I really ****ed Denmark up but I came back to make Nigeria rule Africa with an iron fist.

The same goes with club teams. With Darlington I was decent but our team was mediocre. With Swansea, I ran up a huge wage bill and jumped ship. How noble of me to at least make them qualify for the CL as my final act.

Swansea now finish inside the top 6 and get another European adventure. Meanwhile Darlo now look good in Divison 1.

It's satisfying to see that I provided the starting block for both those clubs. It's also satisfying to know that my newly promoted Blackburn side have a budget 10 times the size of Arsenal's :rockman:
