Yeading v Newcastle
Loftus Road, London
Sunday, 9 January
Third Round
Referee: Howard Webb (South Yorkshire)

Team details:

Yeading will be without Marvin Morgan who is cup-tied, so manager Johnson Hippolyte looks set to go with Errol Telemaque and DJ Campbell up front.

Another striker, Dean Canoville, is out long-term with an Achilles injury.

New signings Jean-Alain Boumsong and Celestine Babayaro are in Newcastle's squad and should make their debuts.

Captain Alan Shearer (calf) will not be risked by Magpies' boss Graeme Souness but Craig Bellamy's knee problem is not too serious and he is available.

Key Match Stats:

YEADING against Newcastle United encapsulates the romance, the glamour, the very essence of the FA Cup, as the minnow is matched with the mighty, the part-timer opposes the professional, the non-League unknown plots against the mega-star multi-millionaire.

The west London based side, 123 places lower than Newcastle in football's pyramid system, have qualified for this club record third round berth by successfully negotiating six ties, and not one of them against League opposition. Indeed it was known at the time of the second round draw that there would be at least one non-League representative at this stage when Yeading were paired away to fellow Ryman League neighbours Slough - a tie they won 1-3.

Under manager Johnson Hippolyte, Yeading have hit tip-top form. They hold a nine point lead at the head of the Ryman Premier League, with seven wins in a row. Indeed they've won 11 of their last 12 in all competitions since 6 November, the only reverse being a 0-4 loss to Billericay in the FA Trophy. It's all been good news for their commercial manager Bill Perryman of "Bend It Like Beckham" fame.

NEWCASTLE UNITED became the first club in the 20th century to win the FA Cup in successive seasons. They claimed the trophy three times in that decade (1951, 52 and 55) but have not lifted the silver pot since. Against non-league opposition, the Magpies have traditionally struggled. Bedford Town pulled off a major shock in achieving a 1-2 third round victory at St James Park in 1964. Television have recorded for posterity Ronnie Radford's thunderbolt in the Edgar Steet mud as Hereford humbled the Tynesiders in a third round replay in February 1972. Then the "Black and Whites" were held by Hendon and Stevenage 1974 and 1998, but progressed after replays on home turf.

The Premiership club will be thankful they are not playing this tie at Yeading's ground, the Warren. It's been switched to Queen's Park Rangers home at Loftus Road for safety reasons.

The Magpies, who've recorded one win in nine games under Graeme Souness since the end of November, have managed to progress past the third round in six of the last eight seasons.

TOON ARMY

Starting XI
Shame they couldn't play at their home but a whole host of Londoners will go to Loftus road to cheer on Yeading so it should be a good atmosphere

My prediction: Yeading 3-0 Toon :p

TOON ARMY

Starting XI
Full time: Yeading 0 Newcastle 2

Comfortable win in the end but huge credit to Yeading especially in the 1st half. They can take a lot of positives from the game and hopefully it'll see them win their league which they currently deservedly lead.

Fernandez

Team Captain
Yeading gave Newcastle a run for their spot in the 4th Round. Yeading can't be blamed defensively for conceding the two goals.

Senior Squad
Lol Yeading are like only a league up from our first team. The equivelent anyway. So they're semi pro's. They didnt do bad at all and made a good start, hear about the yeading keeper, the longer he goes the game without lettin in a goal he gets things. One of the prizes was to CL Final tickets, and if he'd of gone the whole game he'd of got a Ford Focus, but he got the alloys on 30 mins or sumthin lol.

Good game tho.
