The PES 2011 Stadium Editor – At a glance

Written by Ian on Sunday, 15 August 201015 Comments

After the playtest report I posted earlier this month there are a few things that I feel I should cover in more detail, and one such thing is the stadium editor. I’ve received a fair amount of good questions from you guys in the past few weeks, and I’m happy for this to continue by all means. Even so, I’ll try to cover any questions that people might have regarding the stadium editor here.

Before I go any further, I’ll also confirm that the new save options allow you to save any number of photo’s and stadiums. Since save slots are no longer being used in PES, your only limitation will be the remaining space on your hard drive. This is big news for the game, and should allow for countless alterations to the in-game experience. Anyway, back to the stadium editor.

My initial response when seeing the stadium editor was that it’s pretty expansive, and whilst early screenshots were merely confusing and a little bizarre, the nearly-finished product was pretty impressive. For the sake of simplicity, I’ll bullet point the various basic aspects that can be tinkered with in stadium editor

-Stands

-Turf patterns

-Tracks (around the pitch. I think a Bayern style running track is one option)

-Layout (The shape of the edges of the pitch)

-Manager’s bench

-Seat colour

-Background

The stands can be altered to look imposing and modern, or small and basic. Either way, you can tailor the stand to match your team to some extent, and create a fitting backdrop to your matches. The seat colour alterations can be used to make the stadium look appropriate for your team, or simply to create a garish and psychadelic look sheerly for the hell of it.

Manager’s benches have a similar effect, and I’m sure you’ll be delighted to find out that you can select a ‘Sir Alex’-esque flashy dugout with leather-effect seats. Likewise, you can choose a plastic bus shelter style manager’s bench that looks as if it’s been nicked from a secondary school’s hockey pitch.

The backgrounds are also useful for embellishing your stadiums, even if their effect is rarely too noticeable. Backgrounds range from mountain range styles to Western town settings, complete with high-rise apartment blocks. The word on the street is that photographs can be uploaded to replicate real-life backgrounds, though I guess you could use this to take snaps of your bedroom walls and turn PES into the game that Subbuteo should have been.

I’ve no idea whether or not these rumours are true, but apparently advertising boards will be changeable as well. This should involve photo’s too, so you could make real-life or comedy alterations to your stadium hoardings. If the stories are true, the stadium editor could prove to be a fantastic way to lose a rainy afternoon.

To add to this, you’ll still be able to select cheering patterns, though I can’t promise that these wont be annoying. The grass pattern selection is a good thing though, and will add a nice final touch to the stadium. I’ll personally be content to never have to play on the weird looking pitch with the circular pattern that’s never used anywhere in real life (If someone can think of any examples of where it’s used, thanks, but I don’t care).

To summarise, the stadium editor looks pretty good, and appears to be far better than the gimmicky and restricted feature I’d expected it to be. It genuinely seems as if the stadium editor will be a very positive addition to the PES series, and it may well be included in future releases.

As always, if people have any questions to ask about the stadium editor then send them in.

It would be a nice adition to the master league to create your own team stadium.

I think konami have sold themselves short by not including goal net customizing,in saying that I think it is a step in the write direction. I’m glad that the gameplay is now sorted(will still need adjustments next year) and they can focus on other aspects of the gaming experience.

Quick question: Has the official release date for pes11 been announced, I heard that fifa’s release was 1 oct?

  • Javman said:

it comes out on the 15th of october in some shops and 23rd in others… but im not so sure about it being the 23rd, i read it somewhere… ill check it out… but the stadium edit mode looks AMAZING!!! can’t wait for pes this year!

Seeing that Man U is confirmed to be one of the licensed EPL teams,I would like to ask, why can’t konami accquire full licensing for the PES series?…how far out of reach is it?

The circular pattern in the grass was actually used in the Danish Premier League this very weekend - and, if I may add - it looked great!

@ Christijan- I’m pretty sure that the stadium editor can be worked into master league, though I’m not sure it’s one of the ‘create a team’ options. Even so, there are two leagues worth of fake teams, which I believe can be altered. It should be possible to make loads of new teams with their own stadiums, and if you want to replicate lower league teams you should be able to make suitable stadiums for them.

@ Dennis Bergkamp10 - The nets seemed to be a suitable colour for all of the teams I played with. Also, the code that I played was 70% complete, so it might yet be able to customise goal nets.
Secondly - From what I understand FIFA no longer have exclusive rights for the premier league, and full EPL rights might be possible in the near future. I’ve no idea how much this will cost Konami, or whether or not they’ll bother, but I’m sure they’ll be working on it.

@ Javman - Thanks, I actually wasn’t aware of the release date myself!

@ Great Dane - I said that I didn’t care, but hey, that’s actually quite a nice bit of trivia. I bet it looks pretty impressive in real life, but I’ve never really enjoyed it in PES. Long live the Danish Premier League!

DennisBergkamp10 fifa own the Barclays Premier League so its not possible. and they dont have enough money to get the whole thing anyways so konami do personal negotiations with clubs for licensing. and u must remember the premier league is the most expensive league in the world.

I hope they include net editing… I hate nets on PES, they look so unreal to me.

Nevertheless, I’m really looking forward for this new tool, I’ll spend hours editing stadiums :)

  • Dennis Bergkamp10 said:

    Thanks for the insight denno.

I do feel that pes is doing well because without these so called licensing rights, pes has fifa looking over there shoulders. So if pes had to have the full licensing then I think fifa would be left for dead…well that’s what I think!

PES is taking control where FIFA fell short. For years FIFA hav been asking for new ideas nd for years people have responded with new stadiums. Since there too lazy to take the views of the fans seriously I hope PES surpases them. Maybe that will teach FIFA

Hello, please don’t think i am suggesting you could be wrong or even lying but can you tell me where you got your source from about unlimited saving slots for PES2011 ? I have read many differing accounts all over the web. Some say it’s the exact same as last year with a very limited 200 slots for kits and only 46 slots for emblems. Which is not nearly enough for a worthwhile option file. No one seems to know for sure what the actual save system allows this year as Knoami have said nothing either way….

    Thanks for your help :)

  • Ian (author) said:

@ Papichan- Seeing as Konami haven’t been forthcoming about the save slots, I’m not going to say anything about the identity of the person who told me about the save slots. What I will say, though, is that myself and Dougiedonut from pesgaming heard the news about the save slots from a very reliable source. I’d be amazed if this feature is not implemented for the new game, but I can’t offer any 100% guarantees.

Thankyou for the reply Ian :)

Let’s hope it turns out to be the case. How perfect that would be for all of us contributing to option files !

Massive disappointment. You can’t move the stands closer to the pitch which results in a massive gap between the goal and the stands. No way of recreating Premiership type stadiums.

the circular pitch was always my favourite , each 2 their own
