Pro Evo to make its debut on iPod and iPod touch
This year, Pro Evo is to make its first full debut on iPod and iPod touch, as Konami looks to corner the market for handheld games. Konami claim that this new interpretation of the game will be groundbreaking, giving players the ability to pass, dribble and shoot with the usual panache. There is also a focus on realistic gameplay, intuitive AI, and “stunning 3D visuals”. So far, I’ve only managed to get hold of a screenshot of the game, and to be fair, the graphics look fairly impressive given the format of the game.
Konami seem to be rather proud of this new development, and are keen to stress that the game will be far more playable than most ports that we see for handheld devices. However, this is a tough claim to live up to, and until we playtest the game, it’s going to be nigh on impossible to pass judgement. The real test will be to see whether or not the iPod or iPod touch is really a suitable format for PES in its full glory.
You’ll all be pleased to hear (should you want to buy this), that the UEFA Champions league and the UEFA Europa League will once again be playable, as well as a number of ‘key game modes’ which haven’t yet been specified. This looks like it could be a really enjoyable development. I personally haven’t played a handheld PES game since PES 2008 for the PSP, which was actually very hard to put down at times. However, whilst the PSP is set up in a way that makes it fairly easy to get full control of the game, the iPod and iPod touch may be a little tricky to use.
This has the potential to be an interesting diversion from standard PES, and gives us something to anticipate along with PES 2011. PES 2010 for iPod and iPod touch is due to arrive in June, a few months before we can expect PES 2011. This should give us all something to do with our spare time in the run up to the next season of football-based computer games, and who knows, might prove to be a real success.
