Blinders & Blunders - The French FA
To be honest, there have been a fair few e-mails in my inbox, which is why Soccer Gaming has been a tad quieter the past few days. We have some cracking pieces lined up, along with news of new titles and a review or two. But to carry on with our World Cup feature, the Blunder I am looking at is the howler dropped by the French FA,
Yes, Raymond Domenech is arguably a nightmare of a coach, and yes the players are more the likely the ego centric jackasses they appear on TV, however, the French FA knew this before a ball was kicked in South Africa. They knew this before Domenech released his squad, and they probably should have known this before Henry handled the ball to elimate Ireland last November. And yet, they did nothing. French legend Lauren Blanc may well be lined up to be the next manager, but surely this just compounds the fact that Raymond wasn’t good enough, and his selection decisions had proved this. The Anelka issue, the refusing to train, the Malouda falling out and the inevitable exit during the group stages could all have been avoided had the Federation Francaise de Football acted with conviction and courage. They buck should rightfully stop with a group of gifted players for their on pitch displays in the World Cup, but it should never have been allowed to get that far. And the winner from all of this, Karim Benzema, who is probably delighted his reputation hasn’t been tarnished by the events of the past few weeks!
