Blinders & Blunders - Mesut Ozil

Written by Dan Bolas on Saturday, 26 June 20102 Comments

As an English fan, I wanted to give a Blinder to this young German prior to the game, with the hope that he is poor, and more importantly, it is his last game in World Cup 2010. Mesut Ozil has had a very strong World Cup, and has showed influence, ability and skill above and beyond many of the highly ranked world stars on show. His strike against Ghana sealed the German’s place in the last 16, and his performance in the first game against Australia was truly world class.

This year, the Germans seem to have come at the competition from an entirely different angle, and by blooding the young talent, they have caught a few nations off guard with fluent, attacking and easy to watch football. The likes of Muller, Badstuber and Khederia have all played crucial roles in achieving this, but it is the Werder Bremen playmaker that has earnt a special mention. Of course, at 21, he still has a great deal to learn on the International stage, but I fully expect the cheque books to come out and the ‘big boys’ to come knocking following the tournaments finish in July.
