Blinders & Blunders: Asamoah Gyan
Lets get one thing perfectly clear, Luis Suarez cheated to keep Uruguay in the world cup. In the clamour for Goal Line technology and extra replays, the fact remains that in spite of the referee seeing the incident and penalising the Ajax forward, his actions directly denied Ghana a goal and as a result, the penalty shoot out saw the end of the African talent in the competition. Yes, Ghana had the penalty, but a kick from eleven yards is still mild consolation to a ball that was definitely crossing the line.
However, with that said, Gyan’s spot kick was a true blunder moment of the world cup. The number 3, who had been excellent as a lone striker for all of Ghana’s games had shown immense composure from the spot in the tournament up until this point, a view highlighted by his kick in the shoot out. And yet, when his opportunity arose in the biggest game of his career, the pressure got to him and he went for power, resulting in a miss. Asamoah Gyan was not a household name before the World Cup, chances are following this competition a move away from France to a major European side is on the cards, but one kick could have made a whole world of difference for his country.

First of all, Suarez did not cheat, he was punished with a red card and a penalty shoot; it´s not Suarez fault if Gyan missed the shot. Second, that play began with a non existing fault, that only the referee saw. And last but not least, the first ghana player who shot on goal in that play, was in offside possition. As a matter of fact, Ghana made a lot of extremely violent faults that the referee didn´t punished. I hope you´ll re see the match, but this time, paying a little more attention to the game.
Regards!
Interesting Gerardo. I don;t begrudge Uruguay a place in the last 4. Because they have played well in pretty much every game. However, the fact remains the same, Suarez did use his hands illegally to stop a goal. Suarez doesn’t do that, and Ghana are through. I am singling out Asamoah Gyan for missing the penalty, and not focusing on the entire game, which was linked with a number of very firm tackles both fair and illegal.

…your point of view is wrong, cheating is when someone tries to deceive and Suarez not deceive anyone, just committed a fault that was just charged and punished. If the player did not have the category Ghanaian enough for a penalty kick is not the fault of Uruguay, but the player. Only category players are predestined to accomplish great things, because in football, not enough “marketing”..
You need to read the rules before saying someone is cheating. What Suarez did was comparable to making a foul to someone that was a few cms before the line with no goalkeeper and with a sensational chance to score. That foul deserves a red card and a penalty kick. Is that cheating? Read the rules and then speak.

first of all, the ball DIDN’T CROSS THE LINE.
second, what denied ghana a goal is the fact that gyan missed the penatly kick, just the action of gyan and not from everyone else.
it was a natural reaction what suarez did, he didn’t want the ball to get in, and in the situation he did it with his hands, committing a faul that was punished. if committing a faul is cheating, why isn’t everybody saying that fabian melo cheated? that piqué cheated? that bocanegra cheated? that clark cheated? that every player that committed a foul cheated?
Ghana number 10 is cheating, he is trying to score a goal in offside!
Shame on him!

I do understand what you are saying and I must once again reiterate the point that my Blunder was given to Asamoah Gyan for the hand ball. If a player intentionally fouls another player, dives or breaks the rules of a football match and is conciously aware of doing so,that is actually the definition of cheating. When Ozil took a dive against Australia in the first Germany game, that was Cheating, and when Keita pretended to be hit by Kaka in the Brazil v. Ivory Coast Game that is cheating too. Irrelevant of a referee seeing or punishing an incident, the crime is still cheating. If you cheat on your wife, and you get caught, unfortunatly you have still cheated whether she kicks you out or not.
I have nothing against Suarez personally, he has had an excellent domestic season and a solid world cup, but unlike fouling a player in the penaly box with an open goal, he denied a goal bound ball with his hand. If he hadn’t done it, the ball would have 100% crossed the line, and he was fully aware and responsible for his actions, in the same way Henry was in November 2009 and Maradonna was in 1986. Using your hand to gain any kind of advantage in football is cheating. He has been punished (rightfully so) and the fact Gyan missed the penalty was the point of the Blunder, as man who has been so prolific from the spot throughout the tournament, fell foul to the pressure and ulitmately cost his team a place on the last 4. As I mentioned above, Uruguay deserve to be in the last 4, and that incident doesn’t tarnish that.
I totally agree that the Blunder was totally on Asamoah Gyan. He should have buried the spot kick and he didn’t.
Cheating or not what Suarez did is sending the wrong message. Other players who are facing that same situation will take the red card and give the other team a penalty kick hoping that they will miss it. If it was accidental the referee’s decision would have been fair but he purposely did it, a goal should have been given in that case. Fouls are part of the game, reaching out to block the ball with your hands isn’t.

I personally believe that the only reason why uruguay is in the game against hollnand is becuase of cheating it is very easy to miss that shot because of all the pressure
People are you insane??? You don’t know anything about football??? This is in no way cheating, this is a perfectly valid option (play) that have its consequences. Suarez did not cheat in anyway he did not try to hide, deceive or even lie about it.
Suarez just committed a foul, the rules are clear he deserves a red card an a penalty should be awarded to the other team.
Mario Kempes did the same at the World cup on ‘74 and he didn’t even got a red card because the rule were different back then.
You really need to try to get the facts straight before saying something like this.
One more thing….of course he was trying to deny the goal jajajaja and what’s wrong with that??? the way he did it? there is nothing wrong with that, it’s just a foul like or not…
