Good Week / Bad Week

Written by Dan Bolas on Monday, 22 February 2010No Comment

So regular you would think it ate Bran Flakes on a daily basis, here is this week’s edition of Good Week / Bad Week.

Good Week - Olympique Lyonnais

For those of you who follow French domestic football, you will be aware that Lyon won seven consecutiveleague titles over the past few years, and provided some great moments in the Champions League to boot. They have had some top players (Essien, Govou)  and are a darn sight more entertaining than a lot of the other ‘big european’ teams to watch as well. However, even by their high standard, this week would fall into the category of good. A 4-0 away victory against the mid table Sochaux would be enough to please most managers and fans, but add to that the immense 1-0 victory against Real Madrid, shutting out the most expensive forward line in World football to boot, and you can 100% class this week as a good week for Lyon!

Bad Week - Portsmouth

Week, Month, Season, take your pick. No one in the footballing world would want to swap places with Portsmouth at the moment. The debt they must have been in is rumoured to be in the region of £150 Million, and even selling an entire first 11 hasn’t stemmed the flow, with a reported £60 Million still owed to various sources. The request to sell players outside a transfer window was both hopeless and a sign of desperation, proving just how much trouble the team is in, and even the powers that be within the club must be starting to see the cracks turning into holes! And to make matters that little bit worse, a last minute goal saw Stoke City sneak three points at Fratton Park, in a game which Pompey dominated for large portions. How long Portsmouth will last in the Premier League seems already determined, but for the sake of its die hard supporters, I hope they manage to keep the club running, they just can’t afford to have too many more weeks like this!
