Good Week / Bad Week

Written by Dan Bolas on Monday, 19 April 2010No Comment

Doing a piece like this, there is always the chance you are going to look a bit of a tool! One week you say something, and the next that individual has either shoved the words straight down your throat or even worse, completely flopped. This week, I am dealing with the business end of the Premier League season, and in particiular a story that could have featured from any season from the past few years. A club from North London flopping whilst a club from Manchester pulls out results without playing well. You know who you are…

Good Week - Paul Scholes

When the dust has settled on Sir Alex Ferguson’s career at Manchester United, and all the big names are anaylsed, there will be few that will have been more influencial than the little ginger midfielder. In a world of glamourous footballers, their wags, bling and tweeting, Paul Scholes is a genuine exception. Well into his 30’s the former England International still does the hard work required in a top midfield, in some matches playing against individuals young enough to be his son! His ability to pop up with a strike in an average game has earned Sir Alex many points over the years, but will any goal be as vital as the 93rd minute header against Manchester City. Another true Manchester United legend, Scholes could have played a huge part in the title race, and come May, if Manchester United are celebrating, the number 18 should be getting as much praise as anyone. (Maybe not as much as Rooney though)

Bad Week - Arsenal

Probably the easiest bad week in a while. In free fall since their Champions League schooling against Barcelona, the Gunners were lucky to get a 1-0 win against Wolves a couple of weeks ago. However, the midweek defeat against Tottenham just highlighted how ‘not ready’ Wengers team are, as they were defeated by their local rivals. To follow this up with a down right unprofessional and shambolic last 10 minutes at Wigan has seen their title chances go from slim to zero, with the realistic fact being before Sunday’s game, they were still in with a shout! Yes, players may have been missing throughout the season, but that is the world of football. Just ask David Moyes, who hasn;t had a fully fit Everton squad for 3 years! Two main things required to win league titles are consistency and quality. Arsene’s men have quality, but consistency is something they are still very much without!
