Good Week / Bad Week
As the Premier League season draws to a close, there is really very little more to discuss in the domestic English game. Yes the Play Offs, Cup Finals and European leagues still are all to come, but like many football fans out there, I have more than half an eye on South Africa in a months time for the true football fix.
Good Week - Chelsea
Bit of a no brainer here. I am not a Chelsea fan, nor do I have much respect for Mr. Terry and Mr. Cole as people. However, along with the rest of the players, they have shown a ruthless streak
and professionalism usually associated with Manchester United, and scoring goals for fun in the process. Three times they have managed to score 7 goals at the Bridge this season, and the 8 against Wigan on the final day was icing on a very well made cake. Yes, Drogba has shown all his faces this season, yes, Anchelotti has been both lucky and tactically wise, and yes both Manchester United and Arsenal have lost crucial games at vital stages, but the bottom line is, without Michael Essien for the lion share of the season, Chelsea have been the best team in the Premier League this time out. With a good manager, experienced pros and money to spend, I wouldn’t bet against them next season either!
Bad Week - Manchester City
I could have easily gone the other way and given good week to Spurs and Harry, however truth be told, their fate was very much in their own hands. Whereas a Chelsea or Manchester United would have been able to
grind out a result in a big game, City failed to beat a well organised Tottenham side in their own back yard. With it went all the Champions League dreams, which in turn limits Mancini to attract a certain kind of player yet again, for another season. With millions in the bank and no one to spend it on, it will be up to the Italian to use second string players to once again attempt to break the top four. With an outbound list of 12 first teamers, in a squad that is far from deep, Manchester City have to be careful that they bring in both quality and quantity in the summer, or risk being the nearky men once again!
