Good Week / Bad Week

Written by Dan Bolas on Monday, 24 May 2010No Comment

Welcome to the final Good Week/ Bad Week of the 2009/10 football season. Next week will be a week off for the piece, and then a new feature, based on GW / BW will be running during the world cup. At first, I was going to carry the feature on, but would rather avoid it getting stale, and therefore have decided to rest it during summer. So, the final Good Week / Bad Week of the season is as follows.

Good Week - Blackpool Football Club

As a fan of a football club recently inducted into Premier League folklore (wolves), I understand just how major it is to be in the english elite. The money may be OTT, the spectacle may at times rival some soap operas, but it is the place to be playing and watching football. Blackpool’s legendary 3-2 victory against a much more experienced and expensive Cardiff side is not only a huge day for the club in it’s current state, but like Burnley may allow for financial security in years to come. Yes, they rode their luck at times, but over the three play off games they played, they attacked, entertained and were enjoyable to watch. They have a manager with genuine personality in the form of Ian Holloway, and some players who show promise to go and make a name for themselves at the top. It’s crazy to think, that in a week when the Champion’s League title was decided, Blackpool are my good week, but it is thoroughly deserved, and I have to say I am very pleased for them!

Bad Week - Frank Ribery

For the past couple of seasons, Ribery has cited his desire to win Champion’s League gold as a reason to move away from Bayern. This season, for the first time in years, the German giants actually looked well placed to win the title, and the talisman, their french superstar, is sat in the stands unable to help. When Frank takes a look at his career, he may just realise that his own disciplne has cost his club and ultimately himself a shot at glory, and a fantastic treble. Yes, the final will be remembered for Milito, for Inter and for Mourinho, but the pressure Bayern placed on Robben was ridiculous, and the Munich number 7 could have gone along way to aiding the dutch winger’s cause!
