1860 MUNICH KITS 1997/98

Die Löwen decided to ditch the stripes for 1997/98, wearing what I used to call "Löwenbräu lager can blue" shirts as their first choice, though they thought navy would be still passable as the away kit... from what I can gather 1860 wore navy at teams in white.

I did notice a certain "Insane!" sister website Football Kit Archive has got a two-tone green "Arsenal 1995/96 away" zigzag template as the 1997/98 third kit, but actually the yellow/amber Nike template shirt shown here was the actual third kit, worn at Schalke with the away shorts and plain white socks.

Also for both games against Bayern Munich, 1860 wore sky blue. Bayern bizarrely had that navy home kit for 1997/98, but they wore a red adidas teamwear kit for both games.

I did also notice that 1860 seemed to fluctuate between white and sky blue shorts with the home kit, I'm thinking white was the default set, and sky blue was the alternate.

Goalkeepers had the new Nike design with the contrasting front and flappy collar, but the older orange shirt got used on occasion. I have seen two versions of the black/yellow shirt though, one with a black Löwenbräu logo, and another with white...?

Another work in progress...

Japan alternate goalkeeper kits 1996 and 1998... very rarely worn.
The "flame pattern" style shirts were more commonly used, but the leaf pattern shirts were the second choice... outstanding designs!

I have no idea what the shorts designs are like, and not had the best possible look of the sleeves so there may be some inaccuracies but, given the compexity of the design, I'm happy with how they turned out!

UPDATE - I've since found out the shorts and socks design on the orange kit, worn against Mexico in 1996. The shorts are actually plainer, but with side padding and black panels on the bottom, and the socks had what looked like a white diagonal zigzag detail on the black tops. When I do the full set I'll show the finished article.

The lilac kit worn 1998/99 had the same base design so I guess that'd be the same style.

Wales only wore it between 1995-96, it was our last Umbro kit until 2010.

We even had to wear it at home for a Euro 96 qualifier against Moldova, because they turned up in blue and red stripes :D

It was even worn in the infamous friendly match defeat to............ Leyton Orient! Most probably the nadir of Welsh football history.

Yes I think we wore the dark green kit as Bulgaria's strip had a lot of red on the back - think at the time they hadn't long switched from the adidas kit worn at the 1994 World Cup.

Wales 1994-96 home shirt in progress... red and green together always seems to generate graphical artefacts even at the highest quality.

To think we could have worn this at USA '94 had Paul Bodin scored THAT penalty...

The orange one was worn also at the 1996 Asian Cup as well, I always thought of the pattern as feathers.

WALES KITS 1993-94

Wales had a new home kit launched in 1994 which now had green as the secondary colour, instead of white. Sadly, we had missed out on the World Cup, so this was worn during the Euro '96 qualifiers, which turned out to be an absolute bag of shite!!!

Performances fell off a cliff... embarassing results included a 3-2 loss in Moldova and 5-0 hammering in Georgia... we'd become a laughing stock. The striped away kit was replaced in late 1994 by the dark green strip I posted earlier, that set I'll post later when the shorts are done.

CELTIC KITS 1993/94

Celtic had a new strip in 1993/94 with rather bold hoops featuring a repeated Umbro diamond logo pattern, and as usual, they had numbers on the shorts only. However this would be the last season that this particular quirk would be permitted, as they would have to start wearing numbers on the shirts from 1994/95 onwards.

I've done both a plain set of shorts and the numbered shorts which you'd need RevMod and the individual kits statement to get the proper effect in-game. From what I can gather Celtic used numbers 12 and 14 for domestic subs, so I've assumed number 13 was used for a sub goalkeeper hence no number 13 shorts set here (this will be on the following post due to the number of image links I can put in a single post!)

The away kit was retained from the previous season. Also, previous sponsors CR Smith returned as sponsors again after a two year gap.

It appears Celtic use Umbro teamwear shirts for goalkeepers with yellow as the first choice and a purple shirt not too dissimilar to what Manchester United used in their goalkeeper shirt design at the time. The shirt was paired with older shorts that had been used since 1991, but with the newer Umbro logo, and either the home or away outfield socks (though not always the same socks as the outfield players themselves).

UPDATE NOTE - I've just realised that Celtic's away shirt actually had a shadow print, so I'll update it when I get chance.

How it'd look in-game (but with shorter shorts, obvs)... at the time Umbro seemed to give their clubs longer shorts on some kits but not all, the shorts Celtic had in 1993-95 were slightly longer than what we saw in the 80's, but but long like what has been worn from around 1995 to the present day.

Which explains the stretched number 9!

ABERDEEN KITS 1993/94

Aberdeen kept their previous home kit but it would now be sponsored by A-FAB, whilst a new away kit in navy and gold would be introduced. This took cues from the Dons' previous home colours of amber and black.

Seems as if only one goalkeeper kit was used, which was the common grey Umbro design introduced in 1993.

ABERDEEN KITS 1994/95

Aberdeen introduced a new home kit in 1994 which now featured navy as a secondary colour instead of white, and were now sponsored by Northsound Radio. The away kit was retained but had the updated sponsors logo. There was a new green goalkeeper kit introduced but the previous grey kit was retained (with update of sponsor), presumably for use against Celtic and Hibernian.

It wasn't a good season for the Dons - shocked in the Scottish Cup by Stenhousemuir, they looked doomed with three games left, but managed to pull off a great escape and win a relegation play-off to stay in the Premier Division.
