Rafael Benitez Leaves Liverpool F.C

Rafa has Lehft.

Liverpool have announced manager Rafael Benitez has left the club by mutual consent after six years in charge.
Benitez, 50, replaced Gerard Houllier as Liverpool manager in June 2004 and guided them to Champions League success the following season.
But last season they made an early exit from the Champions League and only finished seventh in the Premier League.
Managing director Christian Purslow and former manager Kenny Dalglish are to begin the search for a replacement.
The club says there is no timeframe for an appointment, and will make no further comment until a new manager has been appointed.
Benitez said he was "extremely sad" to be leaving the club.
"I'll always keep in my heart the good times I've had here, the strong and loyal support of the fans in the tough times and the love from Liverpool," he told the club website.
"I have no words to thank you enough for all these years and I am very proud to say that I was your manager.
"Thank you so much once more and always remember: You'll never walk alone."
Newly-appointed club chairman Martin Broughton thanked Benitez for his efforts, but said it was time for a new era.
"Rafa will forever be part of Liverpool folklore after bringing home the Champions League following the epic final in Istanbul but after a disappointing season both parties felt a fresh start would be best for all concerned,' he said.

I never understood the relationship between Rafa and Liverpools front office. But damn I mean I remember him being a really good coach that just won the uefa cup with Valencia. What happen? It started well but ended so sour. Sorry I just dont follow Liverpool that well. Did this team really rebel against his tactics throughout of the season? The only thing I understand that I can agree with liverpool supporters is his horrible transfers in the last couple of seasons.

Thanks for the time with Liverpool, but it was time to go.

Basically he failed at setting up a team good enough for the league (you can't really rely on Torres and Gerrard being fit all season long).

Next Inter coach.

I hope not. He has good history but his recent performances just aren't convincing enough to keep up what Inter has right now. He'd be putting in 8 Spainsh players in the club anyway to ruin it...

I never liked the way his Liverpool played, but it was fun having a Spanish team in the EPL :D

They should sign Pellegrini.

The only thing that concerns me are the possibilities that Gerrard and Torres may leave. Torres has already expressed that if Benitez were to leave then he would probably follow suit. As for Gerrard, nobody knows where his head is. I can't imagine following Liverpool without Stevie G or Torres running rampant at Anfield.

Disappointing to see him go. His European exploits are second to none. I blame last season on injuries and Real Madrid stealing Xabi Alonso away from us (they upset the player and forced us to sell him).

Anyways, my preferred choices:
1. Martin O'Neill

2. Harry Redknapp

3. Roy Hogson (expectations were so low last season that anything approaching decency would have been considered a success; that's why his name is on this list. A UEFA Cup final loss at Liverpool would have been considered a disappointment.)
4. Mark Hughes (hasn't proven to be a successful club manager....plus he's from United)
5. Sven Goran-Erricccccsssssssson (hasn't proven to be a successful club manager)

Depends on what you term as successful, he was great with Benfica and Lazio and that Swedish team he managed.

Don't really get the fascination with O'Neill. He's probably hit his glass ceiling with Villa. Fans are sick of him already or rather his style maybe.

Mostly long ball, counter attack play with no plan B whatsoever.

Team Captain
He is very close to signing with Inter. I don't feel too bad about this... yes he has made some questionable decisions with Liverpool but he still is a talented manager. I want to see how he works with the Inter management and the style of play he brings. He's one of the best available choices for Inter right now I think.

For Liverpool, Martin O'Neill was being tipped as a possible choice.....around 5 odd years ago. Never came about. I'd very much prefer him. He can bring James Milner with him.

Well for the past 8 years or so, he's been unimpressive:
1. England - Mr. QuarterFinal and NOTHING beyond
2. Man City - he did what exactly.......NOTHING!
3. Mexico - terrible performance
4. Ivory Coast - N/A, because he's just taken over and is largely unproven
