Where Were You 12 Years Ago?

Where did you find out the World Trade Center had been hit by a plane? What did you think at the time and how did it all affect you in hindsight? Don't pretend it wasn't one of the most significant events of your lifetime (not personally perhaps, but as a thing that happened).

I remember coming home from school late in the day and seeing it on TV, and not quite getting what was actually happening. Shocked by the people jumping off the towers, and by the overall destruction, but at the time thinking it was far far away like everything that happened in America, something more like a movie than real life, that wouldn't really affect everybody else. Yeah right.

I woke up in the morning in my uncle's house in Hamburg, Germany; and switched onto Euronews as Tower One was hit. (I was in Hamburg with mum for my cousin's (uncle's daughter) wedding.) We all saw Tower Two being hit live.

EDIT: 9/11 > JFK's assasination.

I was at home, I wasn't really paying attention, it didn't feel real so I just remember my family watching with grim faces.

I didn't realize today was 9/11. Odd.

I was at school early to go to my Aquatic science class to feed my badass salt water shark. He fed on fishes and I loved watching him hunt them down and eating them, but I noticed my normally super happy go lucky teacher completely horrified. We basically watched tv for a couple of hours and sat there in disbelief.

YELLOW CARD: Untrustworthy
Hard to imagine it's been 12 years ago that this happened. I was at home, sleeping, and after I woke up around 8am the radio was on and started hearing how security was high and planes grounded. Not realizing the severity of the situation, I turned the T.V on to see what had just happened a few hours ago and the aftermath.

I was in the kitchen getting ready to go to school. Normally there'd be cartoons on TV so I knew this breaking news was major, but I didn't grasp the magnitude of what was happening at the time.

I was walking to a class, in grade 8. I didn't even know what the world trade towers were. I thought it was a news item, I didn't know it was of that magnitude and the number one news story of 2001.

I was at home watching TV, when suddenly i got a phone call from my parent who told me to switch the channel to CNN. I was shocked after i saw what was going on, and spent the whole day following the news about the situation.
I was a bit horrified, because my first thought was that some country was attacking U.S. or something.

Environmental science, 3rd period when the towers fell. 4th period the teacher made us take a test on some bullshit like "Rosenkrantz and Gildenstern are dead" with the TV on in the background.

I was at home. My brother's best friend at the time called our house, and just told us to put the tv on. Whole family watching the news. Nobody really saying anything. Dad managed to put together one sentence: "Humans can be so stupid."

I was buying A new pair of football boots, ugly, green Lotto's. The radio in store, that usually played music, did a live coverage of the events. I was only 13, but already a dick when it came to politics. I got home and asked dad "what did the americans do now, to piss someone off like that?".

I was watching Dragon Ball when suddenly my mom changed the channel. I only remember many people screaming and I was scared as hell. That night we prayed for them.

Just came home from school. A friend of my brother called and said we should put on the TV. At that moment the first tower had already crashed, the other one was about to.

I was in Queens, about 30 minutes away from ground zero. I was on my way to school when it happened, some friends and i skipped school and went to a friend's place to watch the whole thing from his roof because his house had a view of the Hudson river, there wasn't much to see as it was pretty far and there was a lot of smoke, we ended up watching the whole thing on TV. It was a weird day, people were panicking in the streets that World War 3 was starting, at some point some cops told us to stay inside because there might be an anthrax attack.

The funny thing is that i registered here in September 2001.

I remember being picked up from school, my mum telling we something majorly bad was happening over in America, and we all just sat glued to the TV in disbelief when we got home.
