Club Supporter
The 90s. I started following football during the 1990 World Cup. I played football from 1990 to 1999 (Left Wing and Right Wing. Last season as an attacking midfielder). I grew up with that football. He was the top of Serie A. Van Basten Gullit Baggio Baresi Francescoli Batistuta Signori Zenga Giannini. I enjoyed them all including Ronaldo (The Phenomenon) at his absolute best. There was no internet and the European Cups had a greater media weight than now. If I wanted to see Barcelona I had to hope that they were drawn with an Italian. This created great anticipation for that match which was broadcast for FREE on TV. Only in those cases could I see Romario Guardiola or Koeman. Or Butragueno Ginola and many others. Sunday was a ritual. The match at 2.30pm on the radio all at the same time. In the evening at 6.00 pm the summaries of all the matches. The next day we talked about the games at school, exchanging Panini stickers. It was all more within everyone's reach. Unpretentious, free and of a high standard. Very high level. Both on and off the pitch.
I agree. After the 2006 World Cup, something changed. The spirit of football and the sport became about money and stats.
